What does 'keyswitch' mean????

Hi

Can somebody explain to me what a keyswitch is? It seems like it's obvious to everybody else but I can find any definition of what it is...

Keyswitches are used to change playing styles.eg If you have violin samples loaded,then some keys in the lower register that don't contain any samples could be assigned to being switches.

So the piano key C1 might change your sound to pizzicato,D1 might be legato etc.
I'm only a beginner in midi myself,so keyswitches might have other uses that I don't know of.
