View Full Version : Midi sync with external recorders

Although your sofware package is quit good and stabile, I noticed that there was no option for synchronising with external (digital) hardware recorders through midi. For recording in my home studio I use a Zoom MRS 1266. I only use the sequenser program for midi and software synths such as the Roland Virtual Sound canvas. All guitar and bass parts are recorded on my MRS 1266. The only problem using Reaper is that I cannot sync this sequenser with my MRS, so for me Reaper become not very usefull.
Can you please add a midi sync so that I can work with reaper instead of the Yamaha SQ-01 or Sonar?
Not only because it is so stable to use but also because you can update the program On and on without any cost...

It has been requested many times before, mostly by me, but it seems the need is not pressing for most who use PC for recording. I too have tried and failed to sync my Roland VS to Reaper.
I would like to cast my vote once again for this request.
Yes, every sequencer should be able to sync to other equipment not only as master but also as a slave.
That's a standard feature.

i would be much more likely to choose reaper over all of the other
dongle laden bloatware out there, if it would synch up with my dps24. please make reaper learn to chase mtc and enable some kind of "generic remote" feature.

beg/whine mode off, back to lurking and pressing "play" after every update.
MTC? +10 :D it would make it even more professional than it is.
SMPTE? +100 :D
I suppose those two will be implemented eventually for sure or at least MTC, however I don't think this will happen in this version but rather v2.
Cheers!

Same here!!!!
I have not used Reaper for the last few months and had hoped that by now it would be possible to sync with my Roland VS1880 which has most of my next release recorded on it.
Apparently still not possible.....yet!

Have you guys tried the newer versions? A bunch of synch stuff has been going in since December... I don't use it so I can't say how well or even if it works.

have it, love it, working great for me (v2.031).
some have mentioned the "go to" message support. that would help
me work faster and more efficiently, but i'm ok so far.
i'm currently playing around with a project (just for fun and to flog my system) that has 24 tracks running on my DPS24 in sync with Reaper running 40 tracks with 8 stereo fx returns.(FX are all Reaper, Schwa, Stillwell, Nick Crow{free}, and JS)
pc AMD 64x2 4200
2 Gigs of ram
XP Home
Profire Lightbridge for ADAT, midi, and wordclock between the two(slaved to the DPS24)
the only thing i'm seeing, here and there, is a shift in time between them that seems to bring up some phase issues.(Reaper drifts ahead)
this only seems to occur when i try to work too fast, too often.
if i try to tighten up the settings i get the "red flash" in the transport and spotty crackly playback from Reaper.(to be fair i have not messed with the default settings since v2.027 or 8)
i'll post the song in the "Reaper Radio" thread when it's done.
(hopefully by the end of the week-end/ work has been crazy.)
don't get your hopes up about quality though, i'm not that good. :)

Sweet! Glad to hear you are getting on with it. I tell you man, Reaper has brought the FUN back to recording for me... I love it!!
Let us know when you have the tune up on Reaper Radio. I have been working on a song for a friend but I hope to finish one of mine for the 'radio' soon.
