View Full Version : Ghost Channels

I'd like too see ghost channels in reaper's midi editor. I know that you can open two or more piano rolls, but it's more easy to see ghost channels.
Also, would be cool if you could limite the number of opened piano rolls.

Ghost notes/channels allow to see in the same piano roll window the notes of other midi clips (and you CANNOT modify them) that aren't muted and sound at same time. This is a fundamental feature for us, the MIDI freaks.

I remember seeing a thread here explaining this useful feature very indepth with a whole bunch of pics from protools (iirc). Alas, I can't seem to find it now. I'll search a bit further.
In the meantime here's my wholehearted ++1

Ok, I think it's a very good feature.

I very much love Harmony Assistant for the bulk of my MIDI sequencing, but this would be a great feature to have in Reaper. It could really streamline my workflow and beef up Reaper's MIDI functionality.

+1 ! Allowing ghost versions of the other tracks (semi-transparent), with some easy way (click+modifier?) to switch between edited tracks.
Btw in Logic you could toggle "view multiple items" for the Piano Roll (aka Matrix View).
By double clicking a note you would hide the other tracks, then by double clicking on empty space in the Piano Roll (I know, I know), you would go back to the multiple sequences view.
If I can remember well, the multiple view used either all available sequences or just items of the tracks selected in the Arrange.

Can we blow this FR up a bit by allowing the notes of the same item, but on a different channel than the one you chose in the channel field also to be displayed as non-editable shadowed version?

i found it:
I don't know how should I group the threads :S

I badly miss this feature here.
@eximious: Harmony assistant saves some unnecessary midi data, like channel changes etc right? How are you dealing with that?, Have you got a decent work flow with harmony+reaper, please share with me.

+1 this is convenient of you edit a lot of MIDI by hand

I'm sure this is actually in the program now :)
you need to enable the mode that is called something like "re-use midi editor" and then when clicking on a second midi part both show up (it needs a bit of love but works pretty well).
You can also filter some of them out using the filter option in the midi editor.

-- select the tracks
-- right-click one of the clips
-- select "open itmes in editor"
-- then "Open all items on selected tracks in one editor"

It is still not possible to set a note to a place where a ghostnote is without changin focus to the other midi item. THIS IS A BUG imho and should be fixed.
