View Full Version : Reducing bass guitar in recording
Hope somebody can help with this, I recorded my band last night (as I often do) and when I got back to base and replayed I realised that the mic setting was incorrect and the bass is distorted. Ideally, I would like to filter down or reduce the bass, does anybody know if this is possible please ? Unfortunately, I usually spend most of my time making things louder and bringing out the nuances, this the first time I have had to try and mute somebody ! Any help would be most appreciated.
I'd probably solo the bass and take a look at it in a spectral analyzer, see if there are any particular areas stickin out, then cut that out and try and boost in another area to make it a bit more present... but im new to this whole game so its really nothing more than a suggestion
i think if it`s distorted, it is destorted. so why not play the bass again?
Many thanks for the response so far. Unfortunately, we were rehearsing last night in a hall with no recording equipment so the whole thing was recorded on an using somebodys mp3 player, each track is the whole band so I can't re-record. (we were trying to smooth out some rough edges for a forthcoming gig - hence the lack of recording preparation !)

try reafir in compressor mode. Not perfect, but it could make it a whole lot more listenable
Tried Reafir and it does indeed help (a bit). Ho Hum, perhaps I need to make sure the recording is ok the next time before we finish.
Thanks again for the input.

I'd try a resonant lowpass filter. You'll hopefully just get the low end - and will sound nice and warm... Might end up making it sound a little synthetic, but you might prefer that to distorsion...
Then get a TR909...
Edit: oh I guess the track's all mixed together... hm.
