I adore this theme! I only once used Vegas, but colors are great!
Thank you

WOW!!! That's kind of surprising, I only thought the large majority of Vegas users would have enjoyed it. The default Reaper color scheme's auto crossfade was blending in too much for me, where I couldn't even see it, so I started there and then 3 hours later got a little carried away. I'm glad you like it. I think I might make a Sonar theme next. Any requests?

I like that kind of colors because they don't hurt your eyes after a long period of work. I sometimes work 8 to 10 hours in front of monitor and if colors are too dark or to bright with high contrast, they influence my mood. I like Tracktion colors. I hated them at start, they looked to wash out, but after a long period of time and long day (and night) sessions, they turned out to be quite pleasing.
I think I might make a Sonar theme next.
That would be great! It's colors are very good.
in this case i think we need something like cubase :-)

Yes, a Vegas theme... why not ?
But the look isn't everything... If Reaper could READ video files.... WOW !!!
Is any improvements are planned that way ?
(.... and.... i know.... i'm telling ALWAYS the same : T.I.M.E.S.T.R.E.T.C.H !!!!!!! This is a must have !!! I never see any version or new features or announcments in that way... is such an ida dead ??)

The only thing I don't like in Reaper is that the transport controls are way to the left side.I want it to be like in Vegas - in the center. The placement in Vegas is nearly ideal :)
And,whoever posted the Vegas theme, please upload it again to Stashbox.(and every other theme you may post soon)= much easier to download.
I would love a Sonar theme.
Great job guys :-)

Here's a Stashbox link. I originally didn't put it there, since it's a TXT file and it kept on showing you the contents instead of just being able to download it. I put it in a Zip archive, maybe this will work better.
Vegas Theme:
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1142290012/Vegas.zip
I started working on the Sonar Theme, the only thing is that Reaper doesn't allow you to customize certain parts of the GUI, like where the Transport buttons are. So it remains Grey there and anywhere in the track column headers where a track is not inserted. This worked well for Vegas since it's the same color as the default Reaper theme, but the Sonar theme is kind of looking clownish. Look at the current Nuendo Theme as an example and you'll see the limitation that I'm talking about.

I would like a feature in REAPER that will allow to drag-and-drop a .ReaperTheme file to the REAPER window and apply it immediately,so there's no need to go to the options menu at all.

Yours is good, but you didn't cheat like I did to make the colors exact. I opened Adobe Photoshop and used the eye dropper with screen captures from Vegas. Then Photoshop gave me the exact RGB values, which I then entered into the Reaper Theme editor.

Mine is "Reaper-meets-Vegas"-style,and it looks more correct (look at the time/measure bar at the top and above the selection area.
It's more like the real deal.
I made it by looking at the Vegas window screenshot and comparing it by eye,no PS cheating.

Lol!!! Yeah, I know. I'm hoping Justin will update the theme editor a tad so we can change those colors too. I originally started out doing it exactly how you had done. After it took me 15 minutes for one color and it was still a bit off, a light bulb went off....PHOTOSHOP EYE DROPPER TOOL!!!

Alls I need is a good quality .BMP file to duplicate any theme. One that has all the elements I have in this picture.
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1142238751/Vegas.jpg
Things worth noting in that pic.
1. A track waveform that is UNselected
2. A track waveform that is Selected
3. Empty Space on a track between audio events
4. Area below where there are no audio tracks present
5. Track header unselected
6. Track header Selected
7. 2 events overlaping with a crossfade between them.
8. Markers
9. Volume envelope
10. Pan envelope
11. A loop selection encompassing items 1-5
12. Grid lines
Basically if use the pic I posted above as a reference and give me something similar in a .BMP format then I can create it by using Photoshop and the eye dropper to get the exact color and enter it into the Reaper theme editor RGB color chooser.

Photoshop? You don't even need it.There are free little programs like Colourificator and Pixeur which do the eyedropper job and it's much lighter than having the whole Photoshop installed just for doing that :)
It's a one-minute job to do it with an eyedropper cheat

Just one thing to say: Why are you posting .JPG images and not converting to .PNG? PNGs don't alter the colors and are even smaller in size for these types of screenshots.
If you wan't accurate color replicas, post your screenshots as PNG instead.Colors in JPGs look very different.
I would like to see ProTools,ACID,Tracktion1,Tracktion2 ,Sonar,Logic,Kristal and FLStudio themes. So bring on the screenshots :D

You see there, I learn something new everyday. I'm pretty good with the audio stuff, but when it comes to video and graphics I'm a moron. That's why I use Photoshop....I'm only able to learn one Photo editing app, and I've been using Photoshop since v3.0 and there's still a ton of stuff I don't know about the program.

It's time for more Reaper themes from Synth.
This time here's a dark theme featuring some deadly radioactive stuff - "Toxic" :
Now here's something completely different: Fun Fun Colors - a nice happy theme, maybe too colorful for most of you
Another interesting theme, based on obscure stuff - DCSequencer
And,finally, for those who love the Lemon-Lime theme here's - Tutti Frutti - a delicious, juicy theme full of fresh fruit, not just sour lemons :)
Good for mixing some fruity loops :D
Enjoy!
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1142505228/4_New_Themes_by_Synth.zip
Justin, can you add an option to change the color of the MOVING playback CURSOR,not the position cursor. When creating different themes, especially darker themes like "Toxic",it's very hard to see the gray moving cursor.
Also, can you add outlines to the media items and MIDI notes? Look at this picture I found on the net and see how having outlines on MIDI notes in the piano roll looks great.
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1142505262/AudioApp_Outlines.zip
The same can be done to the audio (WAV/sample) items to look much better.
A user-changeable color for this outline will make it perfect fit for the various themes.
I would like an option for the tracks to be separated by a thin line between them, instead of two alternating colors for even and odd tracks. With this,I can set the same color for even and odd tracks, but have lines separating them.
Also,I can only re-create certain themes with this feature.

It works if you right-click the link and choose the 'save as' option; simply put the themes in REAPERS color themes folder. The 'reapertheme' file is just a set of color definitions.

Once you get it on to it, you keep on trying new skins - which of course is a rather stupid thing to do since the looks of the thing are marginal to the content. Nevertheless - though it's not a matter of great importance - it would be great if REAPER users could really 'create' the looks of their favorite tool, such as can be done with EnergyXT. Anyway, I'm making a piece of trash jazz today called Leaper , and that's the name of this theme as well:
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1142944503/Leaper.ReaperTheme
btw, VSTi's are running much more smoothly for me since 0.92, I'm very happy with that.

That's what I thought at first, but found if the colour scheme wasn't right, it had a significant impact on useability. The one I posted was intended not so much as to look good as to work good.

Here's another small, but significant remake of my Vegas2 theme - "Vegas3 - LoContrast". It makes things much more usable, cause the media item names are clearly visible now, unlike Vegas2 and the "washed out" produce much less eyestrain in the long run.
I use this theme, and the previous "Heavenly Theme" as I find them most easy on the eyes.Low Contrast stuff rules.

That's exactly why I prefer to replace all those whity greys with tranquil colors that simply filter your screen light. I would think that my Leaper theme (he humbly said) is in the end more easy on the eyes and in lower contrast than for instance the Vegas theme. Light grey is a tranquil color when light shines on it; when the light goes through it keeps the eye busy focusing.

Nice and subdued indeed - but when some items are beneath the loop selection area, they become entirely black! Maybe make loopselbg a dim purple. Selected tracks too dark also, here at least - maybe a dull pink for them?

I started with the Toxic theme made by Synth which I actually kind of like and grimmed it out a bunch. Seems like an appropriate look for a program called Reaper, wouldn't you say? Sure it's a bit grim but at least you are not blinded by all that bright glaring white found in the current default look.
If you like it tell Justin he needs to fix themes so we can affect the right side and the section below the wave forms and get it looking more like the picture above.

After a long pause,I decided it was time to update my previous themes and give you some more,so here's a new batch of Synth's themes for your enjoyment:
Heavenly Theme SE :A revised version of my previously awesome theme.Easier on the eyes now.

Low Fatigue Theme : This is what my previous Vegas3_LoContrast should've looked like :) A subtle, but noticeable difference.
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1147612005/Low%20Fatigue%20Theme.ReaperTheme
Also, here's another new, very cool theme called the Synoptic Theme. If you like the Low Fatigue or Heavenly Theme SE,you'll love the Synoptic Theme.
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1147623672/Synoptic%20Theme_Final.ReaperTheme
And finally for the dark theme users, here's a very dark, grim theme a lot more shocking than the previous "Toxic" or the feministic "Taboo Theme": Dare you try the "Bloodlust Theme" :D
http://www.stashbox.org/uploads/1147623723/Bloodlust%20Theme_Final.ReaperTheme
So,how do you like my themes now? (especially those of you using Heavenly and V3_LoContrast)?
The MacOS theme from StyleXP is a perfect match for the first three themes, except for the dark one, which looks good only with a dark Windows theme.
Have fun.

You can basically go through all the themes and know who did the majority of them. The ugliest ones are mine, the nicest ones are Synths! Ha ha.

I have made some, too;
Some are made using some themes already present in Reaper, some are not. The zip file is a bit a mess, you'll have to choose the one you like and get rid of the one you don't.

How about this one?
What do you think?
I found a work around for that white space on the right pain and the middle, you can't read the transport control buttons but until Justin fixes this at least those areas can be black which I like better.

The Alpha Theme, for a clear mind & a fresh start -

I like this theme a lot and use a slightly modded version, i just made the track panels a bit darker.
Otherwise, fantastic job Petramar
[edit-i forgot] could we have a page on the reaper main site which has a more organised themes system? we are already close to 50 different themes and it might be easier to maintain with newer versions of the same theme...

So, here's my first attempt at a theme - and not an original one at that - it's just the 'Nuendo-ish' theme in the installer seemed to me to be so unlike Nuendo (as I know it), it was worth doing it again... So here's the Nuendo colours!
Hopefully I haven't broken any UI rules here...

I don't think i need to make a new thread to talk about it. The mega them ethread looks a nice place.
I have started making some Reaper Themes using the new ability of customizing more colors.
It is nice, but when working with dark color schemes, the arrows, curors, some icons, the track zoom arrows and some more little things look really... well... not fantastic !
I guess it was graphic items made to work with the standard grey gui, and do not work with the new skinz hype...
I would have liked to know if some day, as it seems to be the 'plastic surgery time' for Reaper (might it be called "carver" then, among niptuck fans ?), we'll be able to deal with better customizing controls over arrows and the other dissidents graphic items ?

Well, for whom interested in so terrible GUI,mostly made for fun and to check out the new fanciness of themes support, here is 2 skins i have made.
The first might suit for the ones who enjoy cutting wood in canada, and the other one for the nostalgics of the 340x230pix & 256 color old computer screens..; !
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148555950/REaper-(in-the-woods-orange.png
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148555985/REaper-(my-eyes-bleed).png
I also tried to make a "dark" theme, using one skin someone once made (i guess it was called "grey" ?? sorry for the author, i'll edit and credit as soon as i will find the original skin for v1) and EnergyXT skin.
This is where i realized some things could not fit with non-standard windows light grey skins :
this is a comparison between Ext & Reaper using the skin i "enhanced" from someone else's skin :
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148556055/REaper-(nearly-Ext).png
This is now where Reaper is weak :
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148556121/reaper-not-good-skin.png
(the "resize tracks" arrows doesn't handle alpha transparency, the "efx off" icon is not very readable, and the "internet epxlorer style" scrollbar aren't very pretty...
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148556239/rEAPER-VS-eXT--(cursors-&-a.png
here a comparison between EnergyXT (above) and Reaper (below) standard scrollbar.
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148556294/rEAPER-VS-eXT--(faders-&-ic.png
.. and also EnergyXT's handling of vumeter, faders, transport & recording icons is better in my opinion (smoother, and you can have many visual informations in a smaller space without making it "crowded"...) ;
I will get into an Ableton's Live theme (i know, emulation is very geeky, and i better should make my own, but i'd like to see how Reaper can look, compared to the other DAW i like better the GUI, and if it is possible to make REpaer's new skins features to match those criteria better)...

i get the impression from the irc channel that they are working on some new theme stuff for 0.957 so I am holding off releasing my updated themes just yet
(as an aside, I am starting to "version number" my themes to match which release of Reaper they were made with, helps keep track of which is the latest version of my themes)

Other litle little little FR : an "Eyedropper" tool for making THemes quicker would be very handy, or, at least, the ability to hit the "hexa number" of the color...
This way would could copy one color from somewhere on the screen (for example, to swap some colors)...

Ok
I have made a quick Theme based from Ableton Live's GUI.
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148560933/REaper-SInk-ableFake03.png
But i also made a "whitey" theme.
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148560958/SinK_Whitey01.png
I have wrapped it in a bundle you can download here (4 skins : the "make my eyes bleed one" for the masochists, the "in the woods" one, the "Whitey" one, and "AbleFake").
http://stashbox.org/uploads/1148560989/SINK%20Reaper%20THemes%20(25%2005%2006).zip
I still think that, if possible, it woudl be very nice to be able to choose a custom color for each clip, in order to locate them more easily, even if they are on several tracks, everywhere in the song.

I have spent some time making themes, and had also an idea.
One handy thing kood be to put an "expand" icon near to the zoom track, to automaticcally increase the screen size dedicated to the tracks, when you don't need to see most of the info relative to the vumeters, or if the efx are on/off.
One single clicking on the "expand" icon would make back the screen in its previous state.
Here is a gif animation of what i'm saying, stashbox will be better than my bad english in trying to explain what i'm saying.
I would also request custom scrollbar (i think this is not much hard to do and doesn't take any ressources, as it is a basic trick that can be applied on any javasript webpage, and quite like customizing every other part of the color scheme...)

So now that v0.956/7 supports colors of the main window, people want to update their earlier themes and post them here? At some point I'm going to remove all the themes in the dist and only post the newer update ones.. So, post them following here and I'll harvest for the dist.. :)
P.S. I think fairly soon I'll make it so you can change the icons/fader bitmaps/vu colors in the theme, so we'll essentially have skin support..

Nice nice nice
I have posted 4 skins today.
The one i like the most is the 'Whitey' one.
And, what about a skin dedicated page on the site, like you already do for projects ?
It would make the .exe even lighter (i guess i had understood the file size was a real preoccupation for you).
That way, people could download only the skins they like (we just woudl need a preview thumbnail, like we already do with stashbox and this thread).
P.S. I think fairly soon I'll make it so you can change the icons/fader bitmaps/vu colors in the theme, so we'll essentially have skin support..
-Justin
Again a nice news !
Will icons, faders, etc. be embedded in a single file ? (in order to be able to share more easily the skins) ?
And is it possible to include a font ?
thanks

The more I work with Reaper colour schemes, the more plain I want the scheme to be. I don't find alternating track item colours to be very useful - I'm much more interested in an at-a-glance picture of which items are selected and which are not, and I want to see precisely where the loop selector is at all times, and I want to see as few colours competing for my attention as possible, unless they are different for a reason.
So, I give you the Plain theme - deeply boring but highly practical (IMHO).

DB markings at least when you make them full sized would be nice too.
When recording in Reaper I've noticed my levels seem to be low sometimes because it's harder to get a feel for the meters, in Audition I have no problem getting a very dynamic guitar or bass track to peak at like -3db and not have overs.

I have one complaint about the theming / color system:
When you make a theme, the shadow of the scrollbars gets changed to a weird color (pink? yuck!) and it's not possible to change it.
A selectable color for the scrollbar shadow,or a fix for this color to be unaffected will do the job.

Somthing blue, but chill!
Let me know what you think!
hrwmusic, that thumbnail doesn't give a real preview, it's simply too small and blurry. Why not upload a full screenshot at stashbox.org for instance (see above)?. Fast and easy, and forum users will able to see what they get. :)
I have one complaint about the theming / color system:
When you make a theme, the shadow of the scrollbars gets changed to a weird color (pink? yuck!) and it's not possible to change it.
A selectable color for the scrollbar shadow,or a fix for this color to be unaffected will do the job.
Now several of my themes look weird because of this.
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6837/detail20gn.png
...here you can see I chose green and it is green, but there is an extra yellow-ish underlying shadow, ive seen more extreme cases where it's way off - like try a grey tone...
Setting to black always seems to work though, or of course just turning off the option to change the colours of main window.
This one's for working on your laptop away on safari :-)

I don't like monotone schemes,I like a little color... but at the same time I hate overly hyped schemes that seem to be yelling at the rods and cones in my eyes.
This scheme is somewhat CEP/Auditionish (attn. Art Evans), with the exception of using bright colors for the volume and pan envelopes, so they can clearly be seen.. and the cursor.

Hope someone will like this, and if not, well, it's still OK.

An overall blue-ish theme. To me the subdued/destaurated colors are less stressful appearing, and the brighter colors for the cursor and highlighted regions serve the purpose of drawing your attention to them.

Hey Chip,
that's a cool theme too. Could you post the file somewhere?
Dis would be nice.
Raphael ;)
no new theme to offer, but...
has anyone else paid much attention to the fact that because .ReaperTheme files are text, you can cut and paste parts of one theme into another one? If you like someone's wave colors but not their mixer, just pop them into a theme whose mixer you like.
Well, the color names ARE kind of inscrutable, but it works.
..and how come the app-based themes are all audio apps? Where's the Excel theme? The Photoshop theme? The AOL theme?

I don't like anything too distracting, but I like differentiation of use, hence different colors for the cursor (which I might change to a bright red), timeline and envelopes. The meters I changed to a different hue, since they're actively moving; it doesn't look right to me ina still shot, but with them moving it has a properly "emitting light" effect.

Too get it to look like part of the desktop you'll need:
1. StyleXP or windowblinds or UXTheme Patcher. You will find UXTheme along with a lot of cool eye candy at:
http://osx.portraitofakite.com/
2. OSX Tiger V theme by ~dobee. It has no window borders.
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/17919057/
3. You will need to set your wallpaper background to none. If it is not the correct blue change it to R:73, G:103, B:171 (under Display Properties/ Desktop/ Color/other).
Genießen!

Solar, welcome to the forum.
Only part of my themes (the recent ones since ? - please check the preview pics) are for REAPER's current GUI setup.
For downloading and installing the themes: simply right-click the xxxx.Reapertheme links and save to the Color Themes folder in your REAPER directory. All`the themes in that folder will show up for selection when clicking Options / Color Themes in the REAPER menu.
You can easily create your own color themes in the Options / Preferences / Color Theme window. Don't forget to name and save your new theme :)
REAPER sure has folder tracks. Read about using them in the REAPER manual: http://documentwrite.com/reaper/index.html?using_folder_tracks.htm

Well, only one really.
I had hoped to get this finished for v1.0 but I missed that by quite a way.
Just trying to create something that helps speed up workflow and is easy on the eyes (for those late night sessions) but isn't a plain bland set of pastel colours.
This is a full (well as full as it can be) skin which looks best with the M/S letters rather than the symbols (imho), button outlines off and both the override and the interlace settings on.
Could do with updating the envelope colours (still the same as the default theme ones) but the normal ones look fine.
So without further a-do, in the words of Mixerman, enjoy.
