Starts to seem that most of the people here at the forums are into heavy etc. But I ain't. Anyone who could imagine digging (instrumental) pop/rock with a finnish melancholic edge, go have a listen. But do NOT share the downloaded files.

My songs of heart are not instrumental, but I'm not ready to share them. They are only made to make me emphasize my own feelings, and I don't want to go thru the trouble trying to make other people understand.

These instrumentals don't present my composing, most of these have evolved just from VSTi testing etc. They also don't reflect my favourite music that much. But I still like them in a way. :)

"Jokipuro" (= "Stream River")
VSTi all the way, VST guitar amps. Some ac guitar though.

"Los Desperates"
VSTi all the way, a short VST guitar amp solo. My first proper VSTi song.

"Ode to F.A.T."
I used to call this a love song. Made out of frustation in having to make everything so perfect in life.

"Bugge"
My kudos to Bugge Wesseltoft. Though I'm not a keyboard player...

Edit:
"Pöllö" = "The Owl"
My younger brother realized that an owl sings a specific melody in 7/8 time signature. He sms'd me the notes, and I made a song that has the same melody on the background no matter how much the parts change. Really should re-render this with the Humanisator in the hihat. Waiting to get the new dongle...

"Jokipuro" (= "Stream River")

interestingly sequenced drums. A couple of not so realistic parts but hey that adds to things. I actually liked the "sweeping" effect of some of the drum parts. You actually do sort of feel like travelling down a river with this song, love the ambient arps in the background. Cool, the new drum part that comes in, and the ascending progression around 1:20!!!

I have a similar song somewhere. The encode sort of ruins it a bit but still sounds great. You mentioned guitar amps, acoustic guitar... i cant hear it..

this would make a great video game song. i really like it how it builds, you can feel that drums arent just copied and pasted over the whole song...

oh THEREs the acoustic. around 3:21

nice close up sound. how did you mic this? Its very off-free time.

OH there are there vst amps.

lol

and with a vengance. a bit buzzdsaw ish sounding, but seems to fit. love it how the lead synth part gets nastier and more out of control.

Overall nice piece of music, i havent been into too many instrumentals lately, but this one will be listened to.

"Los Desperates"

ooh.

has some 80's new orderish / pete gabriel (love both of em) feel to it, but quite more mysterious. Along the same lines of stream river.

love the drumbeat, it sort of lags JUST the right amount.

whoa crazy synth part intruding! (2:15)

cool sound.

ok, back to A feel

with a chillin guitar sound solo.

very intriguing ideas.

"Ode to F.A.T."

lol this one doesnt start until 20 seconds in. definetly phat sound. around 1:30 the drums just about split my ears in two. lol

the vocals man...

oh my.

you are insane. The limiter light came on my speakers more than a few times. Interesting for sure, could picture this in a tv show.

"Bugge"

I dont know who "bugge" is but something tells me (could just be my amazing intuition) he plays the keys ;)

this one is all over the place, some interesting dissonance!

Thanks Jason! It's nice to read your comments.

I have later started using Humanisator and often even a phaser/flanger for the hihat, but that one was without. I figured I'm not embarressed them being done with midi, so it doesn't hurt too bad if the listener can realize that.

[You mentioned guitar amps, acoustic guitar... i cant hear it..]

There are very strong guitar parts underneath the part that starts at 1:14. Just damped eights, but I think there were two ac and two el tracks. They are being played with increasing intensity, up until 3:13. I bet You can hear them now that you know what to listen to.

how did you mic this? Its very off-free time.

I think it was just a KM84i at around 2 feet. My living room gives it's own sound even at that distance. I wanted a "lone night in living room" -feel for a complete contrast.

Overall nice piece of music, i havent been into too many instrumentals lately, but this one will be listened to.

I'm surprised! I though this is way too lame, boring and pop for the people here.. ;)

lol this one doesnt start until 20 seconds in.

Oh, my mistake. I actually ment it to be like that, just for annoyance, but ditched the idea later on. The link is now to a new version.

you are insane. The limiter light came on my speakers more than a few times.

:) You know the feeling, everything has to be perfect, one must do certain things just out of society's pressure, and all the sounds you make must be clean and polished... All that really bugged me one day, and I wanted to make a track that has EVERYTHING made wrong! The funny thing is, one of my music technology teacher's really like it! :D

this one is all over the place, some interesting dissonance!

Bugge is a norwegian kb player with a very fresh approach to songs. You see, I have this theory. If one plays with a good rhythm and dynamics, it doesn't matter what you play. That one was played "blindly", I didn't know how it would sound until I pressed the keys. I didn't know what chords I'd be using, I just let the sound swell in my ears... And somehow I liked it!

Anyway, thanks for the comments! I think I'll add some tracks later on.

I also find it interesting that one can compose a song simply out of rhythmic elements, and it still sounds good.

Listened to Jokipuro. Enjoyed it and the contrasts in texture and intimacy between the sections.

Jokipuro - Drums was dominating but kept the song interesting. I thought it was bit loud overall but I still enjoyed it. That was tasty acoustic guitar playing. When the distorted guitar comes in around 4:13, very refreshing.

Los Desperates - This was my favorite out of the bunch. I loved this. It was almost as if I was observing a painting. Man when that new break comes in on 2:09, that is sick...

What is that synth/distorted sound that comes around 2:26? Killer sound. Guitar lead - even though playing was very minimal, you played with control and restraint. It was perfect.

Ode to F.A.T. - no words needed to explain this song. Almost got a heart attack at the end of the song...interesting listen

Bugge - you kept this in the same "mode" for lack of better word in an interesting way. It was almost as one was able to tap into someones thought and feel the desperation...

Keep writing and appreciate you sharing them. Very inspirational!

Thanks guys! It's nice to hear that these are something that others can also enjoy.

I wish I remembered. This is one of the oldest so I made it with Cubase, and I haven't yet replaced my broken dongle so I can't even check which VSTi did I use. (Great system that dongle thing, ain't it?) Whatever it was it was either freeware or something that came with Cubase SL3. I do remember that I used a whole lot of time automating the resonances etc...

Here's one more.

I love Jokipuro, can't get enough of it! Haven't had time to listen to the other songs yet.
