I found Voxengo Span and also Inspector free Vst.

I am looking for more meters,

I hope to find a free equal loudness type meter.

Overall, I think all I should need would be a peak meter, which already
is there on the tracks, right?

Then, I need an RMS meter, right? Which would be the average dB, right?
Is that basically what Root Mean Square is?

Then, I would need an equal loudness meter, too.

And the frequency spectrum dB meter, which Inspector and Span cover.

Anyone know of good free meters, any, really?

Are there some in Reaper I am missing, available?

Thanks for any info.

Not sure what you are actually asking for but here are some free ones:

- http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2575.html

Many thanks, technogremlin.

Those are what I am looking for. They are sure to help me get my levels better. The dynamic range one looks very good.

The one other idea I was wondering about was an "equal loudness" type display, based on something like the Fletcher Munson curve or whatever curve.

Basically, I am just trying to mix mono with nothing but levels adjustments, just to at least get some feel for this simple, basic sort of mixing.

So, I know I have seen some of these "equal loudness" displays in commercial plugins, I probably should have bought the T racks eq when it was on sale, because that had one, but I didn't.

Anyway, thanks again.

Equal loudness is usually just RMS.. which I'm assuming all of those meters can do.

A better way to judge, though, would be to listen.

Meters Schmeters.......I don't really use any of them....except to make sure my over all volumes aren't to hot.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I think it will be good, though, to put a meter on everything to see what the actual levels are at some point, because it could possibly save time in the future, if I can identify some levels that seem to be nice.

It will be educational, anyway.

Naiant Studios makes a VST VU meter
http://www.naiant.com/vst/vu.html

although I must agree with Doughboy above, all you really need a meter to do is tell you when you're over 0dBFS and maybe another to give you a general idea of your average/VU, all of which can easily be accomplished right on the native REAPER meters.

....and you may be right....if it puts you on the fast track to what your trying to accomplish, that's all that matters. Have fun with it.
