Remember when MIDI notes were getting cut off if you played slightly before the first bar of the recording? Justin fixed it to allow them to start right on the downbeat despite being played ahead of time...
Controller messages (like sustain) need the same treatment. It's frustrating when you press the sustain pedal a little early at the beginning of a recording - you lose the sustain but keep the notes... :(
While we're at it, let's a get a controller message to turn off sustain when you press stop. That's more a bug than a nitpick that needs addressing. Infinitely sustaining notes after stoppage is bad bad bad. ;)
...my apologies if there is a way to fix this in the menus. I didn't see a solution in there.
