View Full Version : Maximise the storage of my ride?

I have a 94 chrysler new yorker (yes, a SWEET ride indeed ;) )
and its a semi-decently sized car, a bit of a boat... when i first moved from PA to north carolina and then subsequently up here to the northern new york area, all my possesions fit inside (with the passenger seat clear). I have expanded a BIT in my possesions, a nice air conditioner (which i want to keep cause its practially new), and alot of little stuff, that may not quite fit. Also, my office chair which was brought up seperatly. So, i figure i may as well maximize the space i have.
I have optimizations in mind, but i was wondering if anyone knew about those "Bubbles" that people put on top of their car, something i could store my clothes in or something. All my audio gear usually goes in the trunk, covered by blankets and a tarp.
(its a big trunk)
I plan on moving probably by the end of may (either to PA or NC), depending on a number of factors, my mood, the weather, but most importantly, the work situation.
so, any ideas would be appreciated.
(now talk about OFF TOPIC!!)
heres pictures of the beast to get an idea:

When I moved from Montreal to Calgary a few years back, I rented one of them U-Haul covered trailer. Everything was nicely insulated from road hazard, it didn't cost that much (I think it was 150 buck Canadian for a 4400 KM road trip) and I just left it at the Calgary depot, they have them in most major North American cities. You car certainly look like it could pull one of them without missing a beat.

all my possesions fit inside
That's amazing! To start with, I had to put thousands of books into boxes when I moved to the south of France. And no, these didn't fit in my Citroën... ;)
And what about guitars and amplifier? Chairs and tables? Or a so called bed?
Anyway, find a good new home Jason

I dont bring chairs and tables, couches or my bed... I can get another one easily when i get there.
I have one amp and 4 guitars.... they all fit.
You can rent a hitch from U-haul, I believe.
I can only wonder how you get by with only 4 guitars...

I will be moving soon. But I Drive a 1990 Chevy Conversion Van.
Actually i'm think of setting up the studio in it when I move, cause I'll lose my current space. How funny would that be?
At 10 miles to the gallon though I'm going to have to sell it. My "commute" here is usually only 2 miles or so, so it's not an issue currently, but will be where I'm moving. Maybe I just park it in the yard and it can be my Garage? lol

The good thing with Uhaul also is that if the trailer break down while moving, they take care of it, not you.
I've had a trailer (my own, before I started renting) break an axle on me 75 Km west of Brandon Manitoba (Brandon Manitoba is basically nowhere, so I was 75 Km of nowhere...), in January at 5 in the morning in -42° weather...the trailer is probably still there, with my stuff still in it...never again.
Good luck with the move.

here is the route:

this is border patrol alley: (speed limit is 55 and the roads are long, flat and straight... try NOT getting a ticket there -- its gonna be great having an older car with a trailer... im sure the Border patrol WONT pull me over)

the boring part

the home stretch: (I made my preferred route in pink -- i hate 81, especially after driving it for 3 plus hours. So i like to take the scenic route through binghamton and mountainous northern PA -- lookout, rileyville, dyberry, not that anyone here would know that (wink smiley here)
