Hi all you poor folks like myself. Been using a remote for some time for controling REAPER, but since I'm poor I couldn't buy those fancy MIDI pedal or Tranzport unit so I found the poor man solution.

Here's what I'm using: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/CA/EN,CRID=2225,CONTENTID=9500

Cost me 12 Canadian dollars. I hooked it up to a 20 foot USB extension cord and attached the small unit to my bass guitar strap.

The usefull thing is that you can get the Logitech software which permit you to mapp the 14 buttons to any keystroke combination of your liking, per application no less. So, on the buttons 5-8 I got all the transport control (play/pause/stop/record/home), the Y/Z control the keyboard arrows, button 10 is CTRL+ALT, button 9 arm/disarm selected track, 1 create new track etc. You could even use REAPER mini macro to get even more out of it.

The nice thing is that I can record myself or others playing where it's the most comfortable for me, which is NOT in front of the computer, and still have full access to my host most important functions, up to 26 feet away; I can start recording on the fly without missing a beat.

I plan on turning the little unit into a footboard type of switcher for even more convenience, but it work quite well as it is. Hope it's usefull for someone.

You can map bluetooth from your cell phone to control your keyboard too. Check your phone has a "presenter" type application (usually for powerpoint etc) and mate it to your computer. Asign shortcuts in Reaper keyboard prefs to map to whatever your phone sends and you are done!

Good to know if you have a cell phone that is equipped with bluetooth and know how to use it, none of which applies to me unfortunately http://www.my-smileys.de/smileys3/bawling.gif

hehe. I just want something I can control with my feet. Seems like it would be much quicker for me to toggle recording on or off with my foot than have to use a gamepad or keyboard - in a band rehearsal situation anyway.

I may just end up splooging for either a Behringer FCB1010, or a midi solutions pedal converter:

http://www.midisolutions.com/prodfsw.htm

But it seems like if I can, I may as well sploog an extra £30 or so for the FCB1010 and have more pedals to work with.

I know, why I made a separate thread cause it still might be usefull for someone, and not everybody might think about something like that, I sure didn't when I was looking for a cheap small remote (somebody else gave me the idea).

Been using the little gamepad for a few months, it works very well for me, I can create a new track, disarm the old one, arm the new one and press record without missing a beat and without having to go over to the computer; I still would prefer foot control, why I'm making one. Once I get the housing, I figure an hour or two with the soldering iron will get me there, for about 200 buck cheaper than the cheapest MIDI foot controler.

That's cool, but I lack the skills and time to build my own. I can probably get a FCB1010 for £100, even cheaper if second hand maybe.

I used to use an ATI Remote Wonder to control Cubase. There is an application called Girder (http://www.girder.nl/), which will allow you to map pretty much any game controller or infrared or computer-compatible wireless remote to keystrokes. They also have NetRemote, which will allow you to use a WiFi network enabled Pocket PC, or other network connected computer as a remote.

Way back when, there was a freeware version of Girder for trial purposes, but they don't distribute or support that anymore, and now you have to pay for all versions of it (and the more current versions have crazy features, like you could remote control your whole house, etc.), and the current demo versions are 30 day trials.

But I do have the old freeware version of Girder (which is more than adequate for our purposes), if anybody wants a copy. It's too big to upload to the forum, but I'll be happy to email it to anybody if they want it.

I haven't mapped my ATI remote to Reaper yet, but if I get around to it at some point perhaps I can post up the config as well. Or maybe somebody else would beat me to it.

Bumping this thread just to remind people of this fantastic idea. I just got my Logitech Dual-Action controller (5$+shipping), and already loving it. I'm in the process of programing buttons to my liking, and I believe this can even be used to program automations.

BTW - perhaps it's just me being brain dead, but I can't find a key combination for arming/disarming tracks. Is there one?

I use a combination of Xpadder and my wireless Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller (~$30) to control Reaper without being in front of my computer, works like a charm :)

Good heavens. I have an FCB1010. I never even thought of controlling reaper with it.

I have far too many toys, it would seem.

Another interesting gaming device that could be subverted for Reaper purposes (ReaPurposed?)

Logitech Precision Gamepad, you can get them for like 7 bucks now. I'd post a new link but it'll probably be dead in a few weeks too.

So,What if You did have more Money than brains? Would YOU pick-up a remote like the Tranzport and maybe The Alphatrack. Your thoughts would be of interest. E.
