I know Art Evans works in the radio station in the old convent at Abbotsford that was buzzed by balloon the other day. This is the second blitz that Art has survived.

I am certain that they were aiming at Art himself as there is little else there. Here is the edited article. Quote

"Balloon skims Melbourne rooftops

A hot-air balloon narrowly missed hitting buildings in Melbourne's inner east during a scenic flight this morning.
Abbotsford resident Bruce Sims was alerted to the balloon when he heard shouting from the balloon's basket as it flew over Abbotsford Street about 15 metres above the ground shortly after 7am.
"It was flying in very low along the street, just above the tops of the trees," he told theage.com.au.
"They were obviously trying to keep altitude by pumping more gas into the balloon but...they were gradually coming down lower."
Mr Sims lost sight of the balloon as it floated over the nearby Abbotsford Convent.
Kiff Saunders, the pilot of the balloon in question, told theage.com.au that he had "excellent control" of the balloon's altitude.
"A balloon can fly over an obstacle by a couple of metres in perfect control - it's not a near miss situation, it is a misconception to the person on the ground.
"The fact is just across the river from Abbotsford is one of our primary landing areas at the Yarra Bend Studley Park Golf Course, so I'm surprised to hear a resident (complain) given that our flight path over Abbotsford is quite realistic."
Abbotsford Convent foundation chief executive Maggie Maguire said a staff member saw the balloon clear the roof of the building by about five metres.
It was last seen drifting east over Collingwood Children's Farm.
None of the farm's four-legged residents had been injured by the balloon, she said.
The incident is Ms Maguire's second close encounter with a hot-air balloon in two weeks.
A fortnight ago she was woken by the noise of a balloon's gas jets and looked out the window of her Carlton bedroom to see the passengers in its basket.
"I'm wondering whether they've got some new drivers or something," she said.
Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson said hot-air balloons occasionally had to make unplanned landings when wind conditions differed from those forecast.
"There is nothing inherently unsafe about that as long as it's done properly, it's just unexpected," he said.

balloons, balloons... how about the salty crocs over there?

Are they after Art yet?

Fame sure has its price. We need an Art Council.

luckily the northern saltwater crocodile is literate in the main and we never had any trouble

Heh . . . I'm trying to imagine what written croc language looks like. ;) :D

Strong silent types those crocs, yeah? They never seem to say much.

until you meet one that needs dental work.
we're talking total personality shift. And they have difficulty tying that little clove-packed sling over their jaw - arms are too short.

Like this one - still seems to have the good old habits though....

Getting back to the Convent - I had the pleasure of broadcasting and recording ""My Friend the Chocolate Cake" last night - new to me but probably not new to you, Gerry?

Reaper just sits there and records during these broadcasts (very reliably) but then I take the multitrack version home and tweak the mix for the artists' archive copies.

Actually I can then use LogMeIn to connect to the studio PC from home, copy the original project (rpp) there to an "edited" version, and paste in the edited one from home (LogMeIn Free does not provide file transfer as such but does sync the clipboard between local and remote). As the audio is there already, together will all the same VSTs I have here, only the .rpp needs to be transferred. Then again from home, I run a render on the studio PC across town, and once a colleague has popped a CD in the studio PC drive, I can burn it there from here. Neat, huh? Saves a 40 minute drive each way.

I could also probably use "Orb" to play stuff off the studio PC to here, but I've not got around to setting that up yet.

Both LogMeIn and Orb take care of all the handshaking and firewall evasion - very easy to use utilities.

Today at the studio we had a Chinese TV news crew in taking shots of everything and everybody - I did the usual trick when the camera pointed my way of riding unconnected faders as if I was actually doing something useful. Then I looked up and saw the camera was in a tight shot of Reaper's screen. So maybe the whole of China will see Reaper on their TVs soon.

Then guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan - http://www.slavagrigoryan.com/ - came in to record a couple of pieces while going live to air. If they'd had time to hang around and listen to the playback perhaps they would have been impressed by Reaper but they had to zoom off to their next engagement right away.

There's nothing like the buzz of live radio - that "you've got five minutes to get the sound right, then we're on air" thing - Reaper's dependability and rapid run and setup features are ideal in that context. We've now got a default project that includes everything needed for a typical setup, with all the necessary firewire to track assignments in place - with 24 channels of FW needing to be correctly assigned you don't want to start from scratch each time - project notes containing easy to follow instructions to inexperienced engineers appear automatically - just delete unrequired tracks, and off you go.

Eeeee, I really love it!

My Kiwi girlfriend loved chocolate cake and "My Friend the Chocolate Cake". They do stuff for West Papua concerts. Some ambient but very musical songs.

That sounds like a beautiful set up. Cannot wait for to hold Art to a 'State Tour' complete with cucumber sandwiches and lime cordial.

What an amazing set up. 'Reamote' burning?

Aft, you have it made, off to record Slava Gregorian et al?
