Ultra Fast Track 8R.

This is nothing but a dream come true and here is the reason

I was running 6 instances of drumagog, addictive drummer, Guru, 1 instance of UAD Dreamverb, 1 nexus synthesizer and 2 predators synthesizers. Recorded vocals and double ups which took about an hour. Not a single pop, glitch, freeze and completely no latency.

I'm not used to this at all.

It's too good to be true.
I can snap the midi notes to the grid but when I copy/paste them they are all out of line again.
I can re draw the whole thing in by hand but its still out by the same amounts after Ive zoomed in again after drawing against the grid.
Dont get me wrong, I am quite fluent with cubase, pro tools and reason but this has me stumped.
It could be as simple as a text description of what has been copied. Or it could be more advanced and show a graphic, like a screencap of a copied item.
Or it could be full fledged like Clipmate, and could be docked, and could contain multiple items which could be selected and de-selected at leisure.

First of all let me explain my scenario. When I record a track using my Line 6 UX2, I often make custom tones specific for a recording. I must remember what tone I used for each track, otherwise when I come back to a project I won’t be able to find the correct tone to overdub or change the original piece. What I would like to be able to do is drag and drop my Line 6 Tone (.l6t file) on to a track and have Reaper store this file in the same file location as the recording. Then I would be able to recall this file at a later stage just by clicking on the track and drilling through a menu.

How do I see this working? Reaper already has a drag and drop import facility that specifically understands media formats. I would like it that if I drop a file type on a track which Reaper does not understand, it would prompt me to confirm then ask me to choose an associated application to run the file (or use the windows default). This file is now a linked file and a track can have many linked files.

When I want to load the linked file, I simply right click the track, select Linked Files and Reaper will open the file with the associated program.

The cool thing about this approach is that any file can be linked with a track; I could have an external compressor and take a photo of the settings and drop it on a track, I could have a score for the track that I want to open up in Guitar Pro and I could do the same.

Let me know what you guys think.

Hi, I would really like to see Track Notes added to the Mixer View, in the position where scribble tape would normally be on a mixing board below the faders. (If this function exists already I can't find it). I realize there are project notes, item notes and FX comments already, all of which are great, but having track notes below the faders would be fantastic. This is very handy for real world mixing situations to let you key details that take too long to describe in the track name - and is already a world wide standard in the use of physical mixers. Protools has had this for awhile and Logic 9 has it now.

Thank you. BTW I am loving Reaper, coming from Logic mostly. Reaper is the most logical DAW I've used yet.

Sorry for the big read but I think it's worth laying out.
Keep in mind that I'm already doing some of this stuff via Routings and plugin setups.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Allow midi NOTE input as modulator for Parameter Modulation.

This will save a few steps converting Midi trigger to audio (my current way of using midi input to control parameter Modulation) and if it's taken a bit further it will give us something Brand New ! ...something I don't think we can do in any other DAW.

Now , hear me out if you will.

Note input to plugin parameter , say for instance a filter. This could be any plugin , feel free to fantasize.

Velocity to Amount and Note position to Amount. Either one or both.
Velocity to one value and Note position to another if you will.
Duration will be linked to , well duration of filter opening but can also be used to get creative.

Linking duration to a swell factor could be cool. Hold the note and the filter opens up some more , progressively.

Imagine linking just the keyboard to a filter amount , making big jumps by playing alternate octaves or smaller ones by playing adjacent notes , all the while you might have Velocity set to resonance.

Wobble bass anyone , realtime and handmade ...anyone ?

Or , One octave controls the Cutoff and the other controls res.

Now obviously when only using an octave - you would have 12 positions of the filter , that might not be too smooth , so we get glide. Or some kind of movement from one value to the other. Or you use two octaves.

Another VERY cool possibility is to move the control on the plugin to a desired position , and lock to note . Make another position , lock to note.
When you play these notes the filter goes to that position , with optional glide time or the option of notes between the two locked ones - opening filter accordingly.

Easy to set a range , filter will not close more then your lowest note and the top one sets the opening amount. This is always a pest with rotaries. Mod wheel could be used to set or move baseline value. .

Also if we wan't to take this further we could allow the LFO into the equation. Here's where things get very interesting.

Imagine this ...When you hit a note ,It does it's thing and opens the filter BUT there's a slight delay *if you will* and then the LFO creeps in on top of the modulation.

See where I am going with this ...?

A modulation synth !

It makes no sounds but has an ADSR (for instance)controlled by rotaries if you will, like on any synth ) , hit a note and the filter(or anything you want to control )swells according to the ASDR , Mod wheel to baseline, Creamy LFO on top and Notes can control values - just to modulate plugin parameters.

Obviously this will open up a lot of tweaking possibilities both by playing the keyboard with your mix running and after the fact , messing with velo , duration and note position on an existing or recorded midi track that controls your filter in various ways. Not needing 10 Envelopes , just ONE midi track and a few notes.

No envelopes to move , no buttons to turn , just midi notes controlling the modulation synth , switching between snapshots ,gliding between settings or jumping around like crazy. < I want to PLAY plugins. PLAY ...PLAAY..

Ahh.... and then you save you controller presets , as synth patches , lfo setting, adsr etc. "yep , this is the way I like the ADSR when playing filters." that kinda thing.

Pull in a new plugin , assign to param and you are off playing plugins.
And we still haven´t mentioned VSTi´s...

For the more simple stuff , hit a note and duck a section or bring up the distortion - whatever I'm sure there are uses.

AND ..Simple Plugin settings snapshots bound to Midi note would also give one a chance to hit ONE note and hear the resulting Change. ONE note and the reverb has jumped to the chorus setting. Another note and its back to the verse. No envelopes to mess with, no presets to save , manage and switch. Make a few different guitar tones on the plugin , lock to notes and keep on mixing , ah...need a variation...Hit a note, any note , see if you get lucky.

Can we even jump to plugin snapshot settings in a better way then this ?Can we jump to settings at all ? With glide time!

Now some of this can be done via lots of setting up , I think?
But It could be native, sort of like a simple but MORE powerful version of Fingers from NI.

I think this would be a cool addition to the existing Automation and modulation possibilities. In fact I think this is a great idea and correct me if I'm wrong but I have seen this nowhere. Seems kinda obvious to use the keyboard.

I know I'd go mad for stuff like that ...Dance producers will drool over this and that's a promise.
I can just see it in the V4.

Or I could just settle for Midi note input for Parameter modulation. :)

Which was my intention with the post , got carried away. :)

But a new and potentially very simple way to control plugins , play plugins and switch settings on the fly...Sounds good.
