Some time ago, I created tool bars with buttons for some of the "Set default mouse modifier" Actions to make changing them easier. Now, in v4.33, several of those buttons do not behave as intended.

On investigation, the Cmd Ids for the Actions have changed - so the Cmd Id associated with the button invokes a different Action.

Have a look at these to see some of the differences:

Actions in v4.25, with Cmd Ids from 39901 onwards

Actions in v4.33, with Cmd Ids from 39900 onwards

Actions in v4.33, for "Media Item bottom half" (Cmd Ids 39960 onwards in v4.25).

v4.25
... Big pic: http://i.imgur.com/cJs0bLi.png

v4.33
... Big pic: http://i.imgur.com/OMfS72x.png

v4.33

I imagine the same thing would apply to those actions if they were added to customized menus.

I cannot believe that this is just me (although maybe it is). But it means I'll need to spend quite some time checking every button on every tool bar and fixing them.

Not good. :(

Without debating ALL of the options and the reasons why I don't want to open ALL of that up, I have a few questions I would love this awesome community to give me opinions about. I am tracking a bunch of guitars (electric and very clean-think hard funk/reggae-ish) for a song in the key of Bb minor. I want to voice the guitars as A minor for reasons all of you guitarist should understand; it's got a certain resonance (vibe) that fretting a half step up lacks. The tracks I am recording to are already done, so tracking everything to A minor is not an option. They include vocals and 2 or 3 synths. I have decided to track with amp-sims, even though I prefer to mic my awesome cab with awesome mics. I am choosing the sim for post tracking convenience and would rather not reamp. My question involves changing the pitch of the guitars after tracking. I temporarily dropped the other tracks a half step so I could track the guitars in A minor. Now to change it back to Bb minor, do you think that I will get a better tone raising the pitch of the DI signal and running that through the amp-sim (or reamped cab if I change my mind about that), or render the amped guitar and raise the pitch of that? I know that i could just do both, but to tell the truth, I am wiped out exhausted and can't do any more tonight, so i just thought to throw this out to the forum and see what anyone has to offer in regards to opinions, past experience, etc. Yes, it is "only" 1:22am, this is normally when I get my second wind.... lol. But not this time, it's sleep time for me. Thanks in advance!

While perusing the Internet on EQ'ing I came across a post in a forum which said something to the effect of "just deep narrow cut 560hz on the master bus and you've got a million seller". Now, I couldn't tell if he was serious or just jesting, so I tried it for amusement (and perhaps some desperation:)... 12db narrow cut at 560hz ... and the mix that I had been wrestling with for weeks opened up like magic! All of a sudden the lower mids tightened, the upper mids sharpened, crisp & clear.

Switching to the 'cheap speakers' achieved the same result, no longer did it have that boxy sound which gave you a headache. Haven't yet tried a render on the car stereo ...

So I guess my question: Is there anything to this? Is 560hz some sort of go-to frequency in the spectrum where cutting is magic? Or did I experience a mere novelty moment?

Sure could use that cool million ...... :cool:
To use the MIDI in Reaper to trigger sounds in the Yamaha:
-- enable the Yamaha a a MIDI Output device in Reaper's Preferences
-- on the track, remove ReaSynth
-- then open the [IO} window and select the Yamaha as the hMIDI hardware output

Click Play and the MIDI clip should be sent out to the Yamaha.

To use the Yamaha's sound banks, you need to send Bank Select and Program Change messages to it. You can add these MIDI messages to the MIDI Clip or use ReaControl MIDI. In either case, it will be helpful to create a .ReaBank file, defining the banks and programs.

Have a look in the User Guide, sections 12.7, 12.9.3, 12.18 and 12.36 and
I was able to set up the Yamaha so I could hear my recorded MIDI through the Yamaha speakers. But when I tried to render this into a .wav file it came out silent.
I've tried fiddling with ReaControl MIDI and have a .ReaBank file (which I loaded). But I couldn't get the Yamaha built-in sounds to sound in my project (for rendering to .wav file).
Any suggestions most welcome!

Hi, I'm new here. I've read a couple of posts here after deciding to evaluate reaper and you ppl seem like an really intelligent bunch, so i will probably ask alot of questions to get your opinions.

I'm researching analog summing and I came across the SSL X-Rack videos. They have audio examples on the site but I cant hear ANY difference whatsoever. Below is the link, can you please have a listen and tell me if you can make out any significant differences?

http://www.solidstatelogic.com/audioexamples/
download "summing" ( the one with the mixer )

Maybe why I cant hear difference is because I am listening through bose speakers not professional monitors? (My audio interface is a sound devices USBPRE2)

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
And finally some info about my situation if anybody cares to give further input.
Basically I've been learning ableton Live and synthesis since 2006 as a hobby. Somewhere in the middle between then and now i started saving up for a decent rig and now I am researching my options. I live in a third world country so i can only buy and research online.
After seeing a documentary about a studio called sound city, I found interest in the rupert neve 5060.
http://rupertneve.com/products/5060-...-desktop-mixer
At first it seemed like an acceptable deal, but after the SSL X-Rack examples I feel extremely hesitant.
My budget can afford me a decent set of monitors a new sound card and a new synthesizer (I'm thinking Dave Smith Prophet 12) or a buchla if the analog summing is a placebo.
Hi reaperites
Gotta say I'm loving reaper, licensed - new to reaper & this great forum
Running win7 32bit, Intel e8300 dual core, 3x 2tb hd's
I'm a drummer in 2 originals bands
Have just finished tracking, editing, mixing 11 songs for an album for band A, and am about to move onto the same for band B
Band A songs (music) were already laid down, and guide drums (some random drum software) were all provided. I just had to learn the songs, add my own touches, learn reaper, and get a good sound & mix. Quite happy - like a pig in sh!t
Drums are setup in a tiny bedroom, square, 1 brick wall, 1 wood panelled wall, 1 wall of cupboards, 1 wall of windows with light curtains, wood ceiling & bare beams, carpet floor.
So I had do deal with some odd sounds out of the kick (klicky echo) lots of bleed, some harsh cymbal ringing, mud, lack of power on toms
Using an m-audio fast track ultra, 6 tracks USB, kick (shure pg52), snare (shure sm57), 2x overheads (beringher c1's), stereo submix of 4x toms (had to get the balance right (noname mics)
Monitoring using various headphones, ear buds, car speakers, PC speakers & sub woofer - just to get a idea of how my mixes sound in the real world. Don't have real monitors yet
Have ended up with 6 tracks in a folder each eq'd, plus parallel NY compression for snare, plus reverb track, plus a drum mix track, and a track for the drumless music to produce a draft song mix - project tempo set for the click and for editing.
I slip edit the drums into shape, then spend a while getting the right mix.
But we're ready for pro mix & then mastering. All up it has taken me about 2 months to go from nothing, learn reaper, track, edit, mix - 11 tracks
Would be nowhere without reaper - the pro tools that came with the m-audio would not see anything beyond 2 tracks, ditto for studio one - and I'm glad because I would not have dared reaper otherwise - a bit daunting st first glance
Next up, tracking drums for 20+ songs from rehearsal recordings. Gotta slip edit them into shape first. A huge job that reaper is up to, just have to find time (evenings, weekends)
So if anyone has any hints or favourite tricks about anything for acoustic drum recording - mic positioning, eq, project setup, gating, compression, etc, feel free to lemme know
Anyone want to hear what I have so far? Its rock...
Thanks for reading
Is there some volume control somewhere, where i can turn up reaper?
Windows would be ok, but windows controls things only as they are open, and although that would be great if my aim was to turn reaper down, i am looking to do the opposite.
Unless of course, windows can remember windows mixer settings per application, even after a reboot...
Hey everyone,
I'm a huge fan of reaper so far and I think I'm getting it down okay, I've just got a couple of questions which should be fairly simple to fix.
1. When I first started using Reaper, every time I recorded a track it would prompt me with the Save All/Rename etc, but I clicked something at the bottom saying "Prompt me on Punch out/save" or something to that extent. I just want to go back to the way it was and couldn't find the setting in preferences.
2. I would assume this a latency issue, but it doesn't happen when I record into adobe audition so I'm not sure. It's fine when I use one interface to record, but when I use my Line 6 Toneport into Reaper, everything I record is just slightly behind the beat. It won't line up with the click when I recorded it dead on, and when I overlap a guitar, the second guitar will be slightly behind the beat as well. Any thoughts on why this might be? It's only this interface and only into Reaper, but Reaper doesn't have this issue when I use my other interface.
Thanks in advance everyone!
Cheers,
Mike
Hey guys,
I have been using Reaper to record live stuff off of u tube. Some of the performances are over one hour and so I generally will set the parameters for the recording and leave the room. I noticed that there is a break in the audio wave file after around 60 minutes and then there is a new wave file that picks up where things where left off. I edit/glue the parts into one file afterwards and get great results.
Is there a setting somewhere that will allow Reaper to record without breaks until I hit stop record? I am happy doing it this way but thought I'd ask.
Sometimes a item of multiple takes gets deslected, and then if i want to select it again, in order to make a new cut, i might forget to click on the currently selected take, which switches the take, which is really annoying, and if i don't notice right away could lead to forgetting which take was originally selected. If i notice right away, ctrl+z will get me back to the take I had, and then i can more carefully select again, making sure to click on the selected take, but that's really annoying, and i wish i didn't have to do that.
I have an action already for moving edit marker without selecting anything, but i'm not sure if there is an action for this specific purpose.
Hi All,
I have tried a search but to no avail!
I was wondering whether in Reaper it is possible to create a 'ghost' midi item, where for example I can copy an item and see the notes in the background although they are not active?
I believe FL has this feature.
Many thanks :)
Two questions:
1) how can I avoid this from happening in the future? is there a setting so that when a crossfade has been created automatically at a split you can pull the items apart and they will at least maintain the default fade value?
2) is there an action to apply default fade in/out to all selected media items but not change the fade if it is greater than the default value? Basically there are hundreds of slices now with the issue and going back and finding them all will be time consuming. I'd like to just select everything and tell Reaper "if something doesn't have a fade, add one. if it does, don't do anything.
thanks
