Less reduntant timeline measures.beats numbering (like in MIDI Editor)
Main timeline measures.beats numbering similar to the MIDI Editor
The main measures.beats timeline can become clearer and more musical if it behaved more like the MIDI Editor timeline: showing measures only, or measures and beats depending on the zoom level. Currently, there's reduntant numbering in the form of x.x.00 independent of the zoom level.

As a first step, I would like the main timeline to behave like the ME timeline. I would personally appreciate some extra control on how to differentiate the whole measure numbers (e.g. 1, 2, 3) from the subdivisions (1.2, 1.3, 1.4 etc...)
For example: 1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2, 2.2, 2.3 etc...
It could be for example (optionaly) bold font or different color or different size etc...
These are subtle visual+musical enhancements which signify and differentiate the importance of measures and their subdivision. At the same time, it looks less technical by having the excess 00s removed when not needed.

Great idea, but I'd like to see yet another mode (display beats only):
- Really simple numbering of beats (as in FL Studio) in the MIDI editor and in the arranger timeline (no measures, just beats): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,... instead of 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, ...

Synth, what if you're zoomed in? Don't you want to see the measure subdivisions? The MIDI Editor currently displays whole measures only (1, 2, 3... ) when you're zoomed out.

Evan:I'm talking about a simplified beats only mode (no measures and/or centibeats/ticks) with alternate shading for each odd/even measure in the arranger and the piano roll view :)

+1
my insert:
http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=1155
the current playlist ruler is kinda busy for my eyes and useless for me.
the measures/beats of the midi looks much better and practical to me...
I would like to have exactly the same ruler for the playlist like in the piano roll..
1,,,1.2,,,1.3,,,1.4,,, 2,,,2.2,,,2.3,,,2.4,,, 3
so it will be without the x .1.00 for each start of a beat, leave only the X (complete number-start of a beat) in bold/bigger text like in the pianoroll...
