well it may be that its not gonna get good realtime with that card, I have a macbook and im not sure if its the same card but those factory grade cards definitely dont work like cards designed for asio. Funny I actually have a m audio mobilePre that i use for macbook lol lemme know if you try it how it goes
also for the built-in card, go into your jack control settings. go to the right hand side and change the "duplex" setting to playback only or record only. if it works then, it's probably the card is not good enough. you may also want to try "force to 16 bit" setting on the left.
