What does it do?
It looks like Gearbox with a nicer GUI... $249 seems expensive when the Gearbox Gold bundle plugin was $99 a couple of weeks ago...
(I bought the plugin only for $49 then for my XT Live which I already had all the power packs for and the VST functionality is so much better that having to re-amp via hardware)

It doesnt work worth a hoot in the Mac port of Reaper either. The UI's are all messed up. The VST version wont load at all, and the AU version only shows when you hit the UI button twice and even then the drop down menus dont work correctly. Im not sure if this is a Reaper bug, or a Line6 bug.

The VST eats all the input.
GearBox works fine, but the VST won't output anything. It sounds like it's a 64-bit processing issue. If you wrap POD Farm in another VST host/chainer it works, but that's both a kludge and a Windows-only solution.
I haven't noticed anything equivalent for Mac.

Pod Farm Fix
There is a workaround for Reaper and Pod Farm
Just run it in a vst host plugin. This seems to be the best:
http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=show&id=2497
Load the 'Effect Chainer' plugin then load Pod Farm into it.
Works great. Line-6 are aware of the problem and I'm sure they will update it soon. It's a bug with 64bit data.
cool, new sexy software. Should run on an iPhone too
(duplicate post from other thread, just in case someone missed it).

I was playing around with the standalone version last night just to get acclimated to the new layout. It certainly is an improvement. I did not bother with the plugin because of the fact that it does not work in Reaper. I am sure it will be solved soon ( I hope ). The dual tone and drag and drop functionality of the software does make for an overall improvement in setting up tones. It worked out nicely for me because i jumped in on the $99 Gold package deal just recently and that included the plugin which also gives me the right to upgrade to the Pod Farm Platinum plug also. So I am in only for my original $99. I am still enjoying the product especially that I cant blast any of the cool Amps I have acquired over the years....

Sly, I also purchased the Gold plugin bundle for $99. Are you saying I can switch to pod farm for free or do I have to pay to upgrade to pod farm? I haven't run monkey for a while will it tell me I can upgrade to pod farm when I run it?

Why oh why oh why did they not design the standalone app to be maximized. They've a lot to learn about GUI design IMO, the whole thing feels really clunky. Sure, the iTunes-style piccies are nice, but it's not nice to use at all...

Yes, just follow the on screen prompts and when it asks for your lic code I believe you only have to type in the word refresh. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

I actually wondered the same thing. There is no reason for it to run in a small window.

It's a teeny tiny window on my 1600x1200 display. Using the patch browser makes my head hurt.

Looks pretty slick... Downloading now thru the "monkey"...
I hope what you all are saying about getting the platinum for free is true, as I got the "gold bundle" a little while back...

So far I like the Gearbox GUI better. Gearbox is more graphical and less texty. And in both of them there is a big difference in levels between presets, but it is easier to deal with in Gearbox. Of course, I have been using Gearbox for about two weeks and Podfarm for about 10 minutes. But so far, me no likey. I think the GUI is blah. It reminds me of being at the office.

Finally got it going. Something weird, I tried to use one of the patches I made and it told me that model amp does not exist. I think the patch was using a 1968 Brit model.(the tone is off color in the listing like farm is telling me it won't work) It works fine in gearbox and all the other gold amp models seem to be present in pod farm.
I like the gearbox gui better. I do like the recording mixer in farm better and the dual tone. I could not use dual tone in gearbox with the toneport DI. I got some interesting sounds mixing some of my patches with the dual tone option.
Have not tried the plugin yet as people here said it did not work in reaper.
Rating: A on the mixer and dual tone. C on the gui not be sizeable and the clunky way it handles preset lists.

I like the POD GUI better! I think it's much more straight forward to me and I like the pictures too! I like how they swirl around on a carousel. Weeeeeee! (It helps to be on medication at the time!)
I love the mixer. It shows sends 3/4 right off where as Gearbox was a little awkward and offers more options for 3/4.
The Dual feature is pretty cool. Really cool.
I like the layout of presets much better. BTW clicking on the arrow next to the folder opens up the sub folders for those who haven't found it.
I went through most of the presets last night and most sound great.
I think the POD FARM sounds MUCH BETTER than the GEARBOX. OK...I just put that there for effect!
The GUI is straight forward and I didn't have to think. I like that in a GUI.
I got it for free and I'm a happy camper!

Dumm question of the day
Two dum questions actually.
1. I have a POD2 does this mean I can get this Podfarm thing for free?
2. I cannot seem to find it on the Line6 site except for a little blurb. Where is the download link?
Errr sorry found the link. I kept clicking on software and getting taken to Lalaland.
Apparently my rusty trusty old POD2 is not supported.
Bother!!!

I think you need to own the Gearbox VST plugin to get Podfarm for free. Last I checked, you can still buy Gearbox Silver, which has a free upgrade to Gold, and now a free upgrade to Podfarm, and comes with a Toneport DI audio interface which also serves as a dongle, for $99. I think this is a very good deal, although I like the Gearbox interface better than the new Podfarm one. Still, a lot of sounds and a usable audio interface, plus nearly latency free monitoring for very little cash.
I was actually surprised that the Podfarm upgrade was free. I thought they were blowing out the other bundles to get folks hooked on needing the newest thing.
People say that the preset browser is better in Podfarm, but in Gearbox the presets were organized into clean, crunch and heavy, whereas in Podfarm they are divided into guitar and bass and then alphabetical. Both interfaces are usable, however.

when I try to do a "buy" i.e. to check it out at least , it shows only RiffWorks as downloads for my TonePort DI-Gold which I got with the Gold Gearbox plugin

any reason I should be excited about this if it's just a new paint job on the existing plug-in? What are the benefits?

Try updating line6 monkey to the latest and then look to see if it lists Podfarm under updates. If it does, log in, download and install it. Then see if it lets you authorize it. You might have to type in "refresh" in the field for the serial number, if that dialog box comes up.
It is a bit confusing. When I first tried, line6 monkey said it was authorized, with the green check next to Podfarm, but I hadn't actually downloaded or installed it yet.
Some people say that the latest driver makes Gearbox sound better somehow. That may be true. I haven't used Gearbox enough with the previous driver to really tell.

I've only go the El cheapo Toneport GX but downloaded the new Podfarm standalone for free but don't need the VST version of Gearbox or PF as it's not the way I like to record.
It has a flashier interface than the standard Gearbox but the only real advantage I can see is it's,"Dual Amp" functionality which I don't have with the GX and my normal Gearbox so that's a reasonable plus for me especially for free
Note:I've had gearbox for several months now and am still finding great tones and tweaks so this just adds a few more permutations but it's all good when it's free IMHO
PS
On my system it loads a little slower than Gearbox which loads very fast even on my AMD 3800 single core. Also the PF has started to make my GB crash so may have to re-load drivers
