It's not overrunning - the whole project performs perfectly as long is it's running on a build before dev-404a. To finish my cue work today, I just installed the 6.53 release version and it worked flawlessly.
I'll wait and see if this gets sorted out later. Thought I'd report in.

Having those stats would be helpful!
If the offline render output differs between 0404 and 0404a that would also be helpful.

I deleted the original wma then encoded the original wav to wma with dB poweramp encoder an it still had the error, then I used Reaper Batch encoder wav to wma and it's perfect.
So I'll use Reaper to fix any other wma file issues Biab users have.
Thanks again !

It looks from the screenshots like Media Foundation is used *unless* DirectShow is in the list. We'll figure out why, but in the meantime you could just remove dshow from the list and leave it that way. If there are no showstopping issues with wmf, we might deprecate dshow ayway.

When WMF is set the projects open instantly but when using DirectShow it takes a long time to load the project in.

I mentioned in the dev0408 thread that I've been experiencing audio distortion on tracks with plugins set to "zero out unmapped channels".
I rolled back version by version and found out that it's dev0407 that introduced this bug, whereas dev0404a has normal behavior.
The attachment shows the type of distortion described above when using a sin wave generator + any plugin with the zero out setting.

Could you possibly attach a small project that demonstrates this? I wasn't able to immediately reproduce it.

See attachment.
Here's what I did:
1. reinstalled dev0407.
2. created a new project
3. added a new empty track
4. added a stock sin wave oscillator jsfx and a ReaEQ on the new track without touching any parameter.
5. Set ReaEQ to zero out unmapped channels.
Immediately, the sin wave becomes distorted, just like the screenshot from the last post.
I tried switching the order of the two plugins, and there's no distortion when the ReaEQ is above the signal generator. I also reinstalled dev0404a and opened the project, and there's no such distortion no matter what I do.

The wma comes closest to sync using fmpeg in 6.54 but you can hear it's out when playing back, +407 is fine with wmf.
I was getting red flashing on the clock at the bottom then it froze up a few times in 407 using wmf, using ASIO or DirectSound.

Replying to myself as I now have a Mac Studio here to test with, and at least the AVFoundation encode was so ridiculously fast (1080p h264 at 12x realtime) compared to my Threadripper PC that I gather it must be using the media engine.
Which of course would make sense given that it's the native API for this! But anyway just a little extra note here if someone stumbles on this question later on.
