Control Surface column in Track Manager
Basic implementation: This would allow the user to decide which tracks appeared on his/her control surface.
Advanced implementation: Each control surface would have a separate column, allowing multiple control surfaces to be dedicated to different functions/tracks.
Just like MCP & TCP, they would all be enabled by default (just as they are now).
Another consideration would be to have an option "link MCP and CS* visibility" in preferences.
*Control Surface

Coloured, per control surface.
Here's an illustration that uses different chars instead of colour.
* - Mackie MCU for example
# - single fader controller like Alphatrack and Faderport
$ - another 8-fader controller, such as any Automap, most HUI surfaces, Nano Kontrol, Behringer BCR/BCF and so on...
Believe it or not, Protools only frames the box containing the track names with a coloured outline to indicate this, although it does this on the TCP and MCPs themselves, not in the tracklist.
Code:
* Track01
* Track02
* Track03
* Track04
*# Track05
* Track06
* $ Track07
* $ Track08
$ Track09
$ Track10
$ Track11
$ Track12
$ Track13
$ Track14
I'd have just one column to actually have tracks show up on all control surfaces. Those columns illustrated above only show which tracks the control surface is actually displaying.
Another little weird problem is that you cannot have control surfaces see the same tracks that the MCP and/or TCP displays do. I had this problem a week ago, when I could hide a damn thing from my MCU and thus had to bank around, even though I'd hidden a bunch of child tracks and left nothing but the parent folders visible on the TCP/MCP.
Wa-heeeird! So perhaps this isn't that hard, since control surfaces already are special (in a Carlos Mencia hit-the-mic-on-the-head way).

IIR Sonar 853 used to show which tracks were being controlled by a control surface by putting a little coloured strip alongside the track in the TCP.
Sort of useful if you had to bank switch between sets of faders, but I can live without it.

Nice FR, but imho selecting which tracks should be shown is the wrong way around: it should be about hiding tracks.
Also, I wonder about scalability: how does it look when I have a hundred different OSC clients all controlling one or two parameters? Having track names left, selection columns right (and scrollable) would probably be better.

Hey Banned,
Not sure where you got the idea that's what I meant!
Just like MCP & TCP, they would all be enabled by default (just as they are now).
Another consideration would be to have an option "link MCP and CS* visibility" in preferences.

Hey everyone,
I've just updated the first post to include a mockup I created that gives a pictorial description of what I had in mind.
Please vote if you haven't already.
All the best,

Voted. I missed this when it was put up.
I kinda wish I could subscribe to and get notification of features that fall within my personal needs, like control surfaces and automation.

FWIW I decided to vote yes for this feature. So how come there are only two votes for it, with all these +1s floating about?
Vote early and vote often!

On the BCF2000 in MCU mode press lower shift + learn and it will follow track visibility.

It took me a long time to figure it out. I did it by accident one day and thought it was a new feature. A few days later it stopped happening and thought the feature was taken out!

Ha Ha! I was actually talking about the issue reporter issue!!!
Welcome to the internet.
FWIW I sold by BCF a couple of years ago and moved to Korg Nanos - much easier to use with reaper. AND you get half your desk back!

I was eyeing the nano kontrol 2 the other day(44 Euros here), but it seemed too small. How is the resolution of those little things ?
I'd be using it as a plugin parameter control device with soft take over.

I have very poor mobility in my hands these days and mousing around doesn't help.
Got the NanoKontrol 1 not expecting much, but have been very impressed.
Don't expect nano movement control on the faders, but in terms of overall usability I have found that even those tiny short throw faders are more than adequate for speedy movement.
And of course the knobs are just fine, as are all the buttons.
At the price, it doesnt hurt to get one to try it out. You cam pretty much guarantee to get most of your money back on ebay gumtree etc if it doesnt work for you.
I swapped a bcf2000 out and bought 2 Nanokontrols and a NanoPad. All working just fine some years later.

My friend has the Nano kontrol 2 and highly rates it...
I have just got a Akai midimix - http://6be54c364949b623a3c0-4409a68c...00x750_web.png
Anyone used one? Im having issue mapping individual tracks as they are onscreen (8 individual tracks, couple effect sends on each track) as i have to toggle between the onscreen tracks which renders the other 7 "tracks" on my midimix as useless. Also appears i can only map 1 send per track?
Essentially i want to use this for mixing live bounces.
anyone know how to help a noob out? :-p
ANY advice on where to look is appreciated, thanks

Yeah, this could use a bump.
