Default Soft knee???

My question is does a soft knee effect the release on a compressor??? Offering a similar smoothness as on the attack?? Thanks

The knee only affects the ratio. Both attack and release should be the same.
The compression sounds softer because lower volume events are not compressed as hard as louder ones, which might make the attack less noticeable, but it should be the same through out.

Yes the knee determines how long the compression takes to reach full ratio (hard knee is instant, soft is gradual). But Knee also affects threshold - with a soft knee having a lower threshold than the same setting using a a hard knee. You can set a compressor with a hard knee so that it isnt compressing at all then just make the knee softer and it will begin to compress without touching the threshold control.

As far as I know the knee has nothing to do with the release curve.
