Default Try to record NPR

I'm trying to record a stream from NPR. That is, I can get the sound to come out of my computer's speakers, but can't get Reaper to record it.

I have gone to Reaper/Preferences/Audio/Device and selected Built-in input. Then I create a track, arm it to record, and push the red record button. The attempted recording is blank. The "VU" meter indicates no input.

I also tried an aggregate device, no difference.

?

If you're on Windows, you have to figure out how to get your outputs connected to your inputs, at least that's the way I do it. I've got a multi input/output interface so it's not to difficult.

1> I set up the main Windows system, to play through outputs 3/4 on my interface.

2> On my interface I plug my outputs 3/4 into my inputs 3/4.

3> On a track in Reaper I select my stereo Inputs 3/4 to record with.

4> Then with Reaper set to play through my stereo outputs 1/2, I can record and listen to what I'm recording at the same time.

There are some software programs available that are supposed to help get the job done, with out doing all that, but I've never been able to get them to work.

Do you literally connect outputs of the audio interface to inputs with electrical connectors?

If it is a hardware thing, I've only got two physical outputs.

Or maybe I'm just being clueless.

For routing audio in OSX have a look at something like:

- Soundflower or its successor LoopBack: https://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/soundflower/
- JackOSX: http://www.jackosx.com/

In addition have a look at this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8BTR3BZoHg

Get SoundFlower or Audio Hijack.

You can find SoundFlower here:

https://www.fluxforge.com/blog/sound...-macOS-sierra/

Audio Hijack is nicer, easier, but costs 50 bucks. There's a demo:
