Default Media Explorer is not showing the waveform + some other things

I recently installed a W7x64 and I started using 64bit reaper.
I am experiencing a weird problem with the waveform peaks.
I can't see the waveforms in the arrangement window or media explorer unless I zoom in closely.
I've tried to tweak every setting I know and I am starting to feel that this is a bug. If I open a track that has 400 files, a window opens that says that its building 400 peak files. It does not build them once but something like 5 times a row or something.
And if I minimize reaper and open it again later it does the same thing again.

On windows x3 32bit I never experienced anything like this.

On top of that track freeze is not working at all and it's giving me this "error: no render target file notification".

Many of my old projects crash if I try to play them.

I waited for years before I went to 64bit because I thought it would be a nightmare, and it turned out that I was right.
I guess I have no right to be angry, but still I find myself being very disappointed in the way things are right now. I rarely have time to make music, and when I do I spend all of my time fighting with reaper problems.

I have also experienced very sluggish midi timing in reaper.
Every time I add a new vsti there is some latency that is added to every channel. This is so weird.
I can't even compose complete tracks because it's not playable anymore when you get so much latency.

Sometimes the first notes in midi items don't play at all.

Many themes I try to use have strange bugs too.

Default Media Explorer is not showing the waveform

filter303,
Did you, by chance, find a resolution for the "Media Explorer is not showing the waveform" problem you were experiencing?
I just started seeing the issue this week.
I/O is fine
Restart doesn't help
I still have no waveform, and therefore no more playback in ME.
Thanks!

Default

I know this is probably 10 years too late but if anyone else stumbles upon this problem:
You maybe have a wrong or no path assigned under Options > Preferences > General > Paths → "store all peak caches (.reapeaks) in alternate path

Then, after assinging a new path you can use the "rebuild all peaks" action.

I usually just create a specific folder under "Documents" where I dump *all* reapeaks into so that they don't fill up all folders with audio files that you will ever use with Reaper.
