Help with annoying frequencies...
Here is my latest piece (done for my PhD student at her dissertation party)
https://soundcloud.com/martin-fabian/the-professor
Thing is, when I listen to it on my Reaper system (M-Audio BX5a speakers) or on the phone, or in headphones, I think it sound reasonably good. But when played on the equipment in that hall where the party was, there was lots of annoying frequencies breaking out, and I have no clue how to tame them.
Any ideas are very welcome.

Hi there I downloaded your song from soundcloud and just had a listen - here's an fxp for reaeq that addresses a few problem frequencies I spotted.

It's mainly in the 400 - 800 Hz region that's sounding unpleasant. I would suggest you use the reaeq preset as a starting point and apply the cuts to the vocal first. A little boost at around 90 Hz and 5 K too

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.
I have been fiddling with this all evening and just as you say, ReaEQ cutting around 500 Hz and boosting a little in the lows and the tops has worked wonders. Thanks!
Also... I put ReaComp on there to tame some clipping; attack, release, threshold and RMS all at 0, knee at 6 dB, automakeup on, smooths things nicely. Here is the new version https://soundcloud.com/martin-fabian...erunner-master

No worries I'll have a listen to the new mix when I'm feeling more awake tomorrow

It sort of reminds of early Ultravox in spirit (musically, not lyrically) - stuff like that. Of course, you may disagree!

No disagreement, it's quite an accurate observation
My musical "career" started in 1977 when Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee set fire to my world, and then during the early 80's I drifted into early Ultravox, early Human League type of music. I would be surprised if this did not still affect me
Thanks again

Yep, I love that early Ultra sound - John Foxx has become one of my all time favourite musicians. Metamatic is one of the best synth pop albums that no one knows about!

I agree. I have that album. They did some really good music back then.
Here is some synth stuff I was involved in the mid-80's
