Default free IK ARC alternatives?

I know ppl always say that this stuff doesn't work like a real bass trap or physical frequency correction, but I'm not able to fix my room by physical means so it always has interested me.

Has anyone used these programs or anything similar in the "free" range?

I haven't heard of these softwares before. Using a subwoofer as a bass trap eh? That sounds awesome...anyone here with a subwoofer to test?

I used this software to measure my room, and once acoustically treated to the best of my ability, build some fairly subtle EQ filters to flatten out the frequency response even more.

I am told, and my experience confirms, that it is quite effective, but possibly only for one specific spot in the room. That just happens to be my listening/working position, so it works well.

I hear that Isone has gone free beer; that and a good pair of headphones would be my choice in an untreated, small room.

Roomeqwizard is not the same thing as what OP is looking for.

Neat idea, sort of like gigantic noise cancelling headphone tech

Do you already own a flat omni mic? If not, the $200 cost of ARC is worth it for that reason alone...

But, if you have one already and don't mind getting your hands dirty you can use Room EQ Wizard to create an EQ curve which can then be put on an EQ in your Master's Monitoring FX. It's a question of how much time you're willing to invest.

Just downloading the trial and no mention of "free " on their site.
I will keep my fingers crossed!

There is an older version of the plugin available for free, along with a load of other old versions of his plugins, all 32 bit i think, they were available from his ( Jeroen Breebart ) web site, aithough a little hard to find iirc.

You might also find them on some of the free vst collection type web sites.

Cheers

Well, apparently it was the JB (older, 32bit) version that went free and it may not have actually gone free, since the dl link on Jeroen's blog doesn't work anymore. So, I'm not really sure. It is available on a free VST site if you do a search for isone free. If this turns out to be bad info, I apologize.

***Wolffman beat me to it.

The link to the free JB stuff was posted a month ago, in a similar discussion right here on the Reaper forum. I know because I used it. And you're right, the free download is tricky to find. And they are 32 bit, I don't know why people get agitated over that.

<edit> Apparently this package went through several phases. I believe this one is the latest, as it includes 17 effects. I regularly use two or three of them.

RoomEqwizard is what you want. But you will need to buy a $60 behringer omni test mic for this to work. And the learning curve for the software is steep.

Room EQ Wizard doesn't do anything like what the Active Bass Trap program does. Apples and oranges.

The op asked for a free alternative to ARC. RoomEQwizard is a free alternative to ARC.

I have no experience with the other software he linked.

Arc is not the same as REW. REW will tell you what problems exist in the room.

ARC magically corrects the problems, according to reports. I have no first hand experience.

Arc user here:

you canni do what it does for free as far as i am aware,

firstly it requires a mic that the system is calibrated to, then it uses that and licensed technology from audyssey to map your room response then cunningly makes it better when its on and you are sat in the right spot.

it apparantly does more than eq adjustments.

i treated the hell out of my room then use ARC so it has 'less to do' and it does give a little tweak to offending lower freqs, at the expense of a touch of 'solidity' up the middle.

getting a 2nd reference monitor arguably is the best mixing aid, but knowing things are as flat as they can be is handy, but comparisons suit our ears and whatever condition they are in at the time better imo, so having another monitor/speaker you can flip to in the same time and space is a big benefit. do that first then bugger about all day with room eq wizard!

Thanks for the responses! I was mainly asking about the 2 programs that were in the original post, but any replies along the more general lines of room correction is of course welcome.

I don't have a nice, flat response mic so there would be one problem.

It's all just stuff that I'm interested in, that's all.
