Default Superior Drummer or some other drum sampler/VST

Hi all - I use Superior Drummer, and while I like it, I'm not getting the kind of sounds I want from it (ie, big bottom kick drums, etc).

What do most of you use for drums (if you're not playing an e-kit)? Is Superior Drummer overkill?

You'll achieve a better sound by starting with good samples, there are a lot around... can't think of anywhere off the top of my head sorry.
Then proper application of effects can then enhance your kit (big bottom kick drums etc) and help to make it sit better in the mix.

All my drums are cut up loops and samples that i have as audio in the timeline, i like to be able to chop and mash my drums.

Terrorball -- What do you use as a sampler to trigger the sounds?

I don't use one at all anymore. I usually have about three tracks in the timeline that i dedicate to drums and just have the loops/one hits sitting there.

Check out the Steven Slate samples. They have some real nice sounds to them. With some proper routing and editing, you'll have amazing sounding drum tracks.

For bigger kick drum sound on SD, what I do is eq and apply hard compression on the kick and if needed trigger a 60hz sine wave each time the kick is hit or trigger a kick drum sound samples

Although i'm sure you can get a really big kick sound out of Superior...

I am really liking Steven Slate Drums right now.

Here is my video on routing them into Reaper.

Toontrack also has some producer presets for Superior including a Steven Slate set. I like to
load those and mess around with the settings in the mixer, to help me figure out how to get
different sounds.
