Default Trying to set up my Focusrite 18i8 to work with Reaper

Complete newbie on this so if anyone could get me started I'd be ever so grateful.

I've just upgraded my IK Stealthplug to a Focusrite 18i8 and I'm having a problem getting it set up with Reaper (or more accurately getting Reaper set up with it.)

With the Stealthplug it was just a matter of installing the driver, plugging in, selecting it as the ASIO source and monitoring the track/s inc any fx using a headphone plugged into the device. Simples!

Obviously I've got some settings/routings wrong as I can only hear in the headphone mix the dry guitar when tracking. There seems to be no signal going through, for example, Amplitube, and nothing shows on the piano track if I hit record. With no FX I can record but still not monitor.

The driver and Mix Control appear to be correctly installed, the device is recognised in Reaper and all the inputs and outputs are showing (I've got 1 and 19 selected as 1st and last inputs and 1 and 8 as 1st and last outputs)

I've read through the User Guide but still non the wiser.

*** EDIT ***

I saw the earlier thread about updating to the Beta version of MixControl and the Beta driver which I have done and now I get no sound at all.

When I change the Mix Preset to Mixing I can playback the recorded signal with no problems.

Wiggy - Post a screen grab of how you've got your MixControl set up. I'm on an 18i20 and I found Mixcontrol very non-intuitive to set up and it might be easier and quicker if we could see what you've got going on there so it could be either corrected or eliminated as your problem.

Feel like a complete and utter idiot - forgot to select 'Record Monitoring On' on the track. Switched it on and everything now works as it should.

Does bring up another (this time very simple problem) which is how do I assign specific inputs on the 18i8 to specific tracks in Reaper (for example Input 3 to Track 2)? Is this done in MixControl or in Reaper?

I was just going to write back to double check "monitor input" is on! Glad you found it. What a relief, eh?

Re: your other question - that's gotta' be done via Reaper. R click on record button and select input. You could just make a template once you've got your basic setup sorted, if you want to avoid doing this over & over.

Last question (hopefully) and I not sure this is something to do with driver or asio settings but the sound is quite crackly.

I've got MixControl ASIO Buffer Set to 'Recording', sample rate at 44.1KHz, Buffer size at 256,

Laptop is an i5 with 6Gb of RAM and Performance Meter is showing hardly ticking over.

Run Resplendence's latency mon and see if you have anything being naughty.

Worth looking at what else you have running behind the scenes too.

You are putting MUCH more stress on your system having the potential to run a bunch of track and plugs instead of your previous puny little chap.

Have fun!

Seems to be Chrome and AVG Anti Virus are the main culprits with the ACPI Driver and DirectX Graphics Kernal also not playing nicely.

1st 2 are easily sorted but not sure how to sort the other problems.

Bit of investigation going to be needed.

If you have an Nvidia gfx card that right there could be your problem. I had similar issues with a passive cooled Nvidia card & ended up switching it for a passive ATI. Job done. That was also reported as a DirectX issue....

The ACPI driver might be solvable by looking for the latest version for your computer....

My GPU is an NVidea GeForce 310M (Lenovo G560 laptop so I'm stuck with it)

Re ACPI driver - I'm on the latest driver.

I'll dig through the processes and associated drivers and stop what isn't needed to give an efficient as possible configuration and see how it oes from there.

Really appreciate your assistance - much obliged

Ian
