When these final versions are posted after the rc versions are through, are they exactly the same as what gets posted the next day?
I wasn't sure if there was something about the official download version being signed or what that even means. I had a weird thing happen after an OS X security update that caused me to have to re-install my entire OS and I wasn't sure if it was due to having a REAPER beta installed. For whatever REASON, OS X wouldn't open any apps and many of then (including native ones like Apple Mail) had a ? over the icon.
Unless something that I'm really into is being worked on, I tend to avoid installing the betas though I do monitor what's being added or changed. I'm usually fairly brave with software updates but that one got me thinking a bit.
If a feature or thing I use is being added or changed, then I'll install the beta versions to see if I have any feedback or issues.
Lately it's been a lot of automation and MIDI stuff that I don't care much about.
Anyway, I was just always curious if the final version here is any different from what gets posted on the official download page.
We will always post the final version here before the main page, however there's a small chance that we might revise the build here (or abort releasing it) if some show-stopping issue comes up. So the build being posted here is a final QA step.
As far as release vs prerelease builds, they have the same signing process, the only difference is that the prerelease builds will remind unlicensed users that it is a prerelease build.
That thing you describe with a ? on various application icons likely has nothing to do with us...

Thanks for clarifying. I didn't think REAPER would cause that issue because you guys seem very smart/careful about things but after I did some research, a few people that also had it happen mentioned something about un-signed apps and I had more recently started installing REAPER pre-release version so that's all I could think of outside of gremlins. That, and REAPER is such a small/clean app.
I only happened one time after installing an Apple Security update where none of the apps would launch and a full OS X clean install was the only option.
A clean install isn't ever a bad thing, but it's nice when you can plan for the downtime.
