Default Clicking in MIDI item in main view adds notes

I have a midi item in my track. Normally I double click it to edit the notes; this brings up the piano roll in a new window.

For this track, the notes are visible in the track, and double clicking the item adds a note where I clicked instead of bringing up the item.

How do I get this track back to the "normal"/default behavior?

Not sure what I did - was editing the automation for a different track when I noticed this, and had made enough changes to discourage finding and loading the appropriate undo state.

Thanks!

It's the MIDI Inline Editor, usually bound to the 'E' key shortcut. Press that again or run the action Item: Close item inline editors.
