Default reaper won't playback - playhead stops - diskissue?

I don't know if I've hit a setting, but I can't playback in reaper.

I thought it might be project load related - tried using media explorer, and it went crazy.

When I press play on an empty project even, even with 'stop at project end' OFF, it just stops straight away.

I changed from ASIO (which said 0/2 channels), to waveout - same issue.

any ideas?

thanks

Quick and dirty check to see if it something you accidentally did: Download latest reaper and click on the Portable install checkbox when installing it.
This puts a 100% vanilla install in a separate folder on your C drive that will not affect what you have done in your existing reaper.
If it works OK you kno you did something to mess it up.

You have the wrong audio driver selected. Try the Direct or WASAPI driver if you have no actual ASIO driver from your audio interface manufacturer.
