Default Masters Degree

There you go...let it all slide out. Unhappiness can't stick in a person's soul when it's slick with tears.
!!! Good to see motivated types thriving here in the forum. Does this mean you'll be getting a haircut?

Default Accomplishment!

A brilliant accomplishment.
I got a BS in Computer Science in 1969. Back then, it was pretty much equivalent to the Masters degree. It has served me well.
May you have the best possible results with this degree.

Congratulations.
I don't know how you fit it all in, what with your family life, multi forum posts and all that Kontakt stuff.
No wonder you lopped the locks off, not enough hours in the day for advanced hair care too!

There was never any advanced hair care even when I had long hair. That's why it was dry, thin and weak, and looked like straws.

Congratulations! Now that you have all the time in the world, time to start digging into C++ programming instead of those puny Kontakt scripts!

Hehe. Point well taken, I definitely need more lower level language experience so I have something to fall back to (for the program I did for the thesis I used Python, that was quite some ride using tkinter for the first time!).

But, Kontakt scripts are fun to do for me, and pay decently (at least for my purposes - it can always be better, you know). It's a much smaller niche so there's no shortage of work to be done... I just want to keep doing it for as long as it's relevant and pays. Because it's fun and doesn't feel like working to me.

I guess one thing I could get into is Lua, since that's used in MachFive 3... and consequently Reaper. And it's also widely used elsewhere, say in games (as far as I know?), etc. Could very well be useful down the road.

However... "all the time in the world" when a kid comes suddenly becomes "not a single fucking shred of time"

I wasn't serious about C++, there's no reason in the world to start learning that unless you want to make your own high performance plugins or applications.

The various scripting languages around are easier to get into and to get concrete results with. Usually they come as a part of some larger thing like Reaper or BitWig or some game, so one can get something happening pretty quickly. A completely different experience compared to C++.

You never know when I could get some mileage out of C(++)... Would be cool to have that plus JUCE in my toolbox for posterity. We'll see. Lua does seem more attractive at this point, though.

Ha ha, that's wild! Because of COURSE you have long hair, that's the only EvilDragon I know, and he has long hair, see, over there on the left?

Anyway, most sincere congratulations on your Masters! That is truly an accomplishment to juggle all that you have been and keeping them all going until it finished. Hope you can have a well deserved vacation or something else as relaxing now.

Congrats. I know how much hard work there is to all this. Did my D.Phil. in 1975 - information processing, looking at the output of single sensory nerve cells, recording live output to a small computer (HP 2114). Of course, in those days you had to build the interface electronics and write the programs in assembler.

Now go and use those skills, even if it's not directly "programming", but as always, the information you picked up on the way will always always inform the way you think and work. [e.g. my work directly informed friends working in neural network technologies in the early days!]

Cheers, and have a beer!

Hopefully it doesn't feel like 20 for him. Congrats to the man on the degree. Had he gotten a PhD he would officially be "Dr. Evil"...

Congratulations EvilDragon! Hope you big success in the field of computer programming, or recording engineering... or keyboard playing? Whatever it is you decide to settle on, I am sure we will hear more .
