Tunecore
Anybody got any luck with this distribution? http://web.tunecore.com/dashboard?pb=fl
I've tried CD-Baby and Spinnup before; nothing. Is Tunecore any better?

nope. tunecore is for people already selling lots of units that can afford the yearly fee. You get all of the sales with tunecore where with others like cdbaby they are taking a precentage of sales. Each has its place. Cdbaby is great when getting started as there is only a one time fee but you lose much in each sale. Once you are selling hundreds of units then Tunecore makes sense as you get all the profits and just have an annual fee. None of them have anything to increase sales. You have to do that.

yes, it is worth it to escape the % taken on individual sales, unless you aren't planning on growing your career and are only putting your songs up for the sake of saying "yeah i'm on spotify."
% taken out of every sale by distribution service is for suckers, in my opinion.
not to mention, if you wanted to escape that percentage by switching distribution groups later, like 5 years down the road, you'll likely lose all of your album reviews, spotify playlist positions, etc and have to start all over again.
tunecore offers a discount on 5 year distro plans as well. i recouped mine within the first week. i'm not a huge tunecore fan or advocate, it just seems like the best deal based on my research.

we'd need someone to do the math to quantify how many "lots" is but i have the feeling it's less than you think. the spotify streams would be the real killer. 9% of all your royalties. holy shit, that's terrible. you make .5c USD on spotify plays already.

Before you make any decisions, check out Distrokid.

The reason I love it is that I only pay one price per year, so If I want to release two three or ten albums, extra singles here and there, etc, I can without paying more money.

Another +1 for Distrokid. They are really fair choice! I was using Tunecore earlier and quit, no regrets.

did your spotify playlist placements, album reviews, etc survive moving from Tunecore to Distrokid? that's my biggest concern. if i lost those i would love my livelihood.

Coming to think about it, I believe I used Distrokid for a year, and other distributors too, those I mentioned... probably totally unnecessary, but I wasn't thinking straight, or understood what I was doing. I believe I was on iTunes and Spotify and other places, but no luck.
Do you guys actually make any money? I've made less than 4 USD in 2 years. And I've been promoting myself like mad on the social medias.

Hmmm, I'm beginning to see a pattern emerging. Perhaps I should retrain as a plumber or something...

our album pays for itself, but not much more than that. We make about $100 in sales a year on thing. so that's a 50 dollar profit.
I like the simplicity of Tunecore, and the CDs are manufactured 1 at time, thru Amazon on demand, (if some old timer actually wants a CD).. Not many of us left.
Discmakers (which is lined up with CDbaby) wants a 100 unit minimum.... 90 of those are for you to hand out or sell , whatever. Which might be good for gigging bands, I guess.
This is sort of an argument our band has been having for the past 3 months. I see absolutely no reason to do anything but "made-to-order" CDs thru Tunecore, since the rest of the world streams music through the streaming sites. My buddy bought a new car last week and a CD player is no longer standard in that car..
