NightWorker, Minimal theme WIP
NOTE: This theme is incomplete in many ways, it`s something I`m progressively working on while I use reaper for my own projects, so use at your own risk
Latest Version: 10 october 17:11 https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1091/Ni...ReaperThemeZip
Hi all, just thought I would post my efforts so far to create a theme that is tailor made to how I work.
It has many features I don`t wish to see, removed from tcp and mcp, I only have what I use on display.
All the controls are triggered form a matrix of buttons (launchpad).
It`s very much a work in progress theme.
Anyway, just thought I would show it to you guys.
The theme originally started off as white ties awesome bespoke theme and slowly I have tweaked it into something a little more tailored to my personal working style.
The inspiration for this theme came from a combination of Reaborn2 by nick moritz and White tie`s BrawnBespoke.
I would also like to mention Vstyler as I am currently using his seperator image and layout from Rado VOX (Although I will replace this with my own eventually).
I just want to say a big thankyou to all the themers here who inspired me to have a go at my own, I really do appreciate how much work you guys put into your themes.
TCP Full(ish)
TCP Minimal
MCP
There are many things I would like to change from here, I would like to add a little polish to the mcp/tcp elements and I also have to complete the envelope section.
After that I will make a start on the icons and other less functionally important details.
Although I created this theme for my own personal use, I`m glad others are having a look and hope they get some use out of it too

Very nice !!!
Download link, please !
Found a little bug. See attached picture...
It has something to do with the mcp.fxlist.margin. Maybe you should also check all other margins, like the mcp.fxparm.margin, mcp.sendlist.margin, etc.

@Witti
Thanks for that I need to tidy up the walter a bit before a make any more changes, I`ll put the theme up for people to mess around with but it could be a bit messy atm
@adXok
It`s an old shortcut to add a track icon, I plan to remove it and redo all the toolbars with my own gfx
The view envelopes icon actually shows/hides a track from the mcp in the tcp, like if I need to automate one of the fx tracks or something.
The group and rec midi/audio buttons are for multi channel vst like kontakt or omnisphere, I have the midi tracks in the tcp and the audio tracks in mcp, so when it comes to bouncing a multi tracked instrument I just select all midi tracks and press group 1, then select all audio tracks and press group 2.
From there I can just flip between midi/audio and all the recording modes and track show/hide states will change accordingly.
It works very well for multi vst.
I also have a nice setup for recording a bank of hardware synths as either midi or audio.
The best thing for me to do will be to put a video of my workflow up somewhere at some point as it might help other people to see just how flexible reaper is with a little application and invested time.

Many many thanks witti,
I just found this thread regarding the margins,
--> http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=109886
Using this:
set mcp.fxlist.margin [3 0 3 1 0.5]
set mcp.sendlist.margin [3 0 3 1 0.5]
The original fx stay nicely in the bounds of the slot now, I renamed the instances however and it looks much better!
Also, if you look at the bottom of the meter now, I have a weird gfx artifact.
I went through the rtconfig and reformatted it to make it easier to read and change and since then I have this small problem with the meter
I`ll have to scan through and see if I botched something in the process :/

New pan pots:
Cant seem to get them to glow though :/
my gfx skills are crap to say the least, very basic and adding a glow to the ring led`s in photoshop seems to bugger the image up.
The knobs are put together in knobman if anyone can offer some advice?
EDIT: Better I think....
The problem was the order of the layers in knobman I think in case anyone was wondering
EDIT 2: Ok, I have had enough of pan knobs now...
The behaviour of the pan knobs snap to centre in a satisfying way
I might reduce the glow effect and I need to sharpen up the Left and Right text marks aswell.

That is very, very nice!
I love how only activated elements are enlighted, making the theme very minimal and "uncluttered".
This has to be tested on a large session, but seems very nice!
Will follow your work

This is a bit hard to me to give you good advices about glow and light with a 5 track screenshot. Sometimes things seem nice with a few tracks, and become nightmare with 100 tracks.
I can just be sure that using points instead of curves to display pans will be less precise.
And I can advise to design the theme with the most functions possible : about pan, you could start with pan+width, to be sure that the two will work good together (and not having to re-design for all different panning modes).
That said, of course you can do as you want It is just some ideas.

I have put the theme up at the top in the first post.
@Addiktion, I know exactly what you mean about the pan precision, I tried with a bar around a knob which was functionally better but didnt quite fit with the theme :/
I still think a pair of horizontal bars is the way to go.
I think at the moment the theme is perhaps a little too "minimalistic".
I may look into using a fixed size for the mcp and tcp backgrounds so I can partition the elements off or something.
Thanks for the advice
Unsure.....
@Nick moritz, Your little L and R indicators on your pan knob was the inspiration for this theme,
unfortunately I can`t get my symbols to look as sharp

Ok, I`m trying to do a vertical slider for the pan.
I have a 76x9 fader from knobman exported to mcp knob stack.
In the rtconfig I have mcp.pan.fadermode set to 1.
The fader looks totally squashed?!?
I`m wondering if it could be anything to do with the anchoring?
Could anyone offer any advice?

Set your mcp.pan.fadermode to 3,1415926535897932384626433832795.
Joke !
Set your mcp.pan.fadermode to 0, or remove the line completely.
1 forces knobs , -1 is to prevent knobs and 0 is default.
(Don't know if this helps. I never tried to create a vertical pan slider...)

Yeah, I made a typo, it should have said horizontal
I tried it with fader mode 0 and I get all the indents and the standard reaper fader, but the knobman fader doesnt work correctly :/
I might stick with the rings

If you ask me, it can't be too minimalistic...
By the way, this looks awesome.
If anything, I would like to see the unlit text to be a bit brighter so it's easier to see...but it's your theme and your call.
Absolutely gonna install this and see if it's for me, thanks man.

You need to set fadermode to 1 to do non-square knob stacks (which is what your fader is, after all). Stacks are only used when it's handled as a knob. Mode 0 (default) switches between knob and fader depending on aspect ratio - if square use knob - , so you can only do knobs with a square ratio in mode 0.
For non-square knob stacks it is most important to get the pink pixels of the stack image right. You need to have them so that a single frame of the stack fits perfectly with the aspects you define for the knob in WALTER. I found that part was a bit fiddly when I did mine, but its just logical that it has to be so.

New MCP Design, not to sure myself about the volume markings.
The markings go downwards at these levels:
0
-6
-15
-25
-35
I`ll probably take them out and just leave the top, 0 and bottom marks on.
Edit: Without as many markings..
Edit2: Even less markings and a little lighter

Horizontal pans, Finally!!
Thanks gofer )
Just need to tidy the pans up a bit now.
Edit: Looking Better, hmm, might have to do away with the glow and go with the pan fader style
Edit 2: No glow
Edit 3: I`m finished with mcp and tcp now

Thanks gridlove for sharing the WIP themefile. Some themers should do it, as nobody can really help with screenshots only.
Some ideas:
- To me, the IO button should not be enlighten by default.
> I active only if track has receives
> O active only if track has sends
- even if it is minimal, a TCP layout with faders and pans would be great.
- in rtconfig, try replacing with this at the beginning: mcp_min_height 304
> to allow displaying multiple rows of MCP, and the smallest Mixer dock possible vertical size with correct display.
- I like when the pan knobs are centered (if mouse editing is still cool). Mockup:
This is very nice in white too. You could have a Dayworker and Nightworker

Fantastic advice Addiktion
I`m just going through now changing the walter stuff so the mixer scales down correctly.
My brains just exploded though so I`m gonna go grab a coffee
Edit: Ok, sorted it now I think
I`ve put a new version up for you to try.
I need to rearrange some of the buttons, but cant do that till I add some pink bits
Edit 2: Bugger, just noticed the envelope buttons are cocked up
gonna have some tea now

You're welcome!
Another suggestion, going to the minimalistic state of mind while keeping all functionnalities:
Maybe "mixing" the fader and vumeter, so that it is only one vertical element.
|
|<
|
|
| is the vumeter
< is the fader
Something like this. I'm not sure it is good, but maybe worth trying.

Yeah, I tried to place the vu meter over the volume fader but no joy :/
also, just found this while looking through the default 4 rtconfig file:
+ mcp_column_anchor
Bargain, I can place all the stuff back where it was now

Narrow Layouts
The meters scale in the long meter version, and the volume slider scales in the short meter version
I`m not sure if I should show/hide some elements depending on mcp height or if I should just keep it as separate layouts.
I also need to find a way to put an fx button on their as their is no fx list in the narrow layouts.
I cant believe how much clutter I`m accumulating on my desktop.
I have random png files all over the place, how the hell do you manage to stay organised but still work fast?

I`m not sure myself tbh, the narrow faders seem to be a good for setting precise levels so I think it would be better to have the meter and the fader expand together?
This is the current behaviour...

Is it me only or this theme by @gridlove is becoming my favorite theme so far. Love the minimalistic, yet easy on the eye blend of slight futuristic. Wooooow. Reminds me a bit of the new set of plugins that Native Instruments has released lately.
Really loving it. Thanx for this amazing theme & to all who input contributors.
Great day to All
P.S Just a quick requess @gridlove, would you consider adding on the on the TrackPanel an additional way allowing to see the Led Volume & Pan, Sends & Receives features right in there? You know sometimes you're working and just are concentrated in working in the workspace and don't wish to always go to the Mixer to bring down volume etc...? Thanx in advance

Yeah, I plan on adding some layouts with that stuff on the tcp soon.
Will probably be horizontal pan and volume sliders.
I tried to do LED sliders but couldnt get it to look right, I might have another go
Oh yeah, fx tracks
Just different enough from the normal tracks as to distinguish them...
