Something to be proud of
[I]This track was recorded in the early 90 s written by Ted lemming (Tedwood) as part of a songwriting project "THE O,MEN" which included dewi evans on keyboards and myself on drums. the song is a fond look back at the early days of harrow band "The Bozos" and their time in Denmark at the height of the hippy days. Ted is is a gifted guitar player and the solo to finish the song is to die for.
Edit: I have replaced the original file for a slightly tweaked version

Link working fine here Ted,
I really enjoyed listening to this one Ted, i love the accordian in it, works perfect in this song.
I love songs like this about real life experiences, always makes for a good listen.
Did you record or mix this one ?
Cheers

It was a combined effort, but I had very strict ideas on how it should be arranged, as it was my song.
Dewi Evens on bass and the accordion (keyboard), Chris on drums
Me on acoustic and electric. We didn't do any cutting, like they do now. We had it rehearsed. Just the three of us and the engineer
I think it was me that came up with the idea of the reverse cymbal, so maybe I was the producer
We played it for real, then I added acoustic guitar, and then we did the harmony's
We specifically went to record it in an isolated studio of the coast of Wales.
This was twenty years ago, and we did five other tracks in two afternoons

Another thing -
The acoustic sounds great to my ears. It's actually an old Epiphone I bought for £60 in a junk shop. That acoustic sounds three grands worth of Gibson on the outro

I agree. Few things combine as well as guitar and accordion, IMO.

Thanks guys
It's no coincidence I think that this song got favorable responses from some of my favourite Reaper musicians

linky fixed
For those that could not listen, I uploaded it on Box/net.
Somewhere along the line I also did some adjustments to the EQ and compressed it a bit
https://www.box.com/s/vnnfjw5kpma1iacl9jun.
I wish I could sing it again. Other than that it's a fir rendition of us at the time - 1992 -ish,

I like the dynamic balance of the new mix even better... though I liked the stronger lower mids of the previous mix.

Thanks Tim, so maybe adjust something round the lower mids.
What I have managed I think is to unify the kick with bass so it has a phatter foundation, and the vocal cuts through and sounds better......arguably
I don't think these changes would be appreciated on small speakers though, it probably sounds thin on smaller speakers, sounds just right on my ATH- M40's though (headphones)

I like this piece. The musicianship is great and it has a nice vibe. IMO, the vocals, especially in the verses, is hard to hear. I'd bring it up just a touch.

Sorry man, it's ripped from a twenty year old cassette.
Actually, it's a semi tone low for me in C, (awkwardly it should be in D flat)

Ahh. Love the accordion! Lovely.
Very nice groove on the drums, too. That's a big part of this song.
What a nice tune - I really enjoyed listening to it.

There really is a lot to like here. After a few listens, my impression remains the same in that this makes me feel good to listen to. Right from the opening super cleanly articulated acoustic through the supportive rhythm section to the accordion which compliments the texture of the acoustic perfectly. The overall sound is really nice too. Every instrument sounds very natural and everything gels together so well. Clear signs of a well rehearsed song recorded with highly interleaved performances. Everyone is right in the pocket. Great players with really nice flow to be sure.
Best of all, this one is a grower. The more I listen, the more I appreciate the subtle things like the percussive phrasing of the vocals, the pleasing harmonies and the dynamics of the song. I can't really overstate how much of a grower this is, really. With every listen, I am anticipating everything more and enjoying it more.
'Something To Be Proud Of' indeed. Hey, someone had to say it...

It never occurred to me, but I'm sure you are right. Mark Knopfler has been a powerful influence in my music
Thank you, and thank you KF.
I feel the mix is way out and I could sing it much better, but the performance counts more. I love the understated but perfect drums. Chris is a great drummer for my sort of music and we have long standing relationship
The boys that did the project agree though - it's a grower, twenty years old and we all think it was a special song
