Default Preferences: play needle stays at stop location?

Hi fellows,
Is there a way that the play needle would not return to the start location, but just stay where it stopped playing?
I searched prefs but could not find it.

By the way: i'm missing the old Reaper downloads (4.x versions and manuals !!!) Is there an archive?

There have been many ways people have changed the playback behavior, one example from the topic:
Play/Stop, Pause..(a better way)

That's funny, I thought I tested the link before posting but indeed, it didn't work before doing it again. Sorry for the trouble. Hope there's something useful there...

Hm, I think I know the answer !
I used a stop action marker in the timeline.
I guess I should use Pauze #1008 !

You can use "Pause" instead of stop (as in the link), or tick the preference to not return to the edit cursor position on stop. This can then be used in conjunction with the action: SWS: undo edit cursor move to move the edit cursor back to its start position if required...

Hope this helps.

I always wondered if there is any real reason not to just use pause fot those times when I want the cursor to move, and stop when I don't. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the difference on a tape deck is that while paused, the play head is still engaged against the tape, right? So I can see why you should use stop most of the time (plus it stops at the current position anyway, which is beside the point.) But in Reaper, are there actions that are not available while in a paused state? I have never tested, but it seems like the only difference is the color of the transport buttons.
