Using Reaper and Ableton simultaneously
Hello! I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted it in newbieland just to be safe.
So here's the deal: I want to be able to use Ableton Live and Reaper at the same time. Of course, since they both use ASIO drivers, there needs to be some kind of work-around.
I have tried asiomulti ( http://vidance.com/asiomulti/asiomulti.html), but while I can successfully select the ASIO client as the ASIO device in Ableton, Reaper 4 shows my soundcard as the only available option. Has anyone had success using Reaper with the ASIO server?
If anyone knows how to do this, please post it here. I would be very grateful.

Perhaps use Jack, or ReWire one into the other? This multi-client ASIO driver also looks interesting.
(I can't test those myself as I'm not on Windows. On a Mac, this stuff "just works". )

You can use either rewire or rearoute. Rearoute doesn't send midi so you could use midiyoke in combination so you can also send midi. If you first open live, select rearoute aiso in preferences, then open reaper you still can use your regular aiso in reaper. Then select rearoute as input on a track in reaper. Rewire does midi, so just lauch live as a slave and select rewire as input for a track in reaper. Downside to rewire is you can no longer use vst(i)'s in the slave.

I've been doing this just this year! (all of the three days of the year xD)
What you want is to use rearoute.
You turn on Ableton and Reaper. in Ableton you send the audio to rearoute outputs and select rearoute as inputs on your Reaoer tracks.
The advantage of this to rewire is that you can't use VST's in Ableton in rewire slave mode.
You can't send midi either, so for that to happen you want something like MidiYoke (I dont know much about this) or what I found working on Windows 7 64x is LoopBe1 if I'm saying the word correctly. Send the midi to any of the channel of LoopBe, and then select is as midi input on your reaper tracks.
Also one thing, since ableton is exclusively 32x (correct me if I'm wrong) you want to install ReaRoute from a 32x Reaper installer. I'd imagine you'd need 64x rearoute installed too. I did the 64x first and then only realized that while I have ReaRoute in Reaper Ableton can't see it because it's 32x. After installing 32x ReaRoute it all worked like a charm! I'm using Reaper 64x and Ableton 32x all together, sharing audio and tempo (I can either sync them or leave them separated) and midi. The best of both words!

Thanks everyone for the advice! I actually just got it to work perfectly! Turns out I was just being stupid - I've been trying to use the 64-bit Reaper with the 32-bit asiomulti all this time! Launched 32-bit Reaper and it works perfectly (and doesn't add too much latency).
I have tried Rearoute, too, but it causes severe crackling. I wonder if this a compatibility issue?

I've actually been using ReaRoute lately a lot and it's doing great so far to be honest. No Cralcking whatsoever. I also have a pet peeve to 32x software! haha so far, Ableton is the only software I use in 32x. But that is routing to Reaper 64x so it's not THAT bad xD
Cheers, V

I also have a x32 pet peeve, haha. I wish Ableton was 64 bit. :P

My pet peeve must then be that we don't have the ReaPlugs on the Mac.
(We have AUNetSend/Receive, virtual MIDI ports, and MIDI over the local network natively, though.)

Or perhaps hold out for a bit and get Push along with Live 9? Looks like a pretty powerful combination.

NICE! :O
I was actually thinking of getting this thing here:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...nce-controller
which would double as a controller for Reaper
I wonder how much that bad boy would cost!

And don't worry, I have a license. I've had Ableton for a while but just recently got back into it.
