Default Clicking in empty TCP space to focus.

Dear Reapers,

When i left-click in an empty space in the TCP area, and then hit keyboardshortcut CMD+A, with the intention to select all Tracks in TCP, this doesn't work. ( i am on mac).
I first have to left-click on a Track in the TCP, before CMD+A works.
Is this normal behaviour ?
Or am i overlooking a setting, making my intention possible ?

I do not think you are overlooking anything.

(It works here as expected, on Windows 7).

It does work here (on mac too).
Don't know why it's not working on your system. Some tiny setting somewhere?
Does cmd+A show in the action window as shortcut for "Select all items/tracks/envelope points (depending on focus)"?

Not working here. Dual core laptop, Win7-64Pro.

Ctrl-A will not select all the tracks unless the last click was one of the tracks.

The action does say depending on focus though, so I suppose this could be construed as intended behaviour.

Thx all for your replies !

I just did alittle experimentation:

I changed my Theme back to Default. (was Reaction 1.00)
Now, with this Default theme, the issue is solved, it just works.

Then i changed the Default Theme to Protools Gold ED 2.05 : again, issue is back.

So looks like, for my situation, it is Theme related.

I am on OSX 10.9.5 , Reaper 4.731

How can this be theme related ? (btw. it's not working here either. winXP 32bit, latest Reaper version)

Make the test:
-open reaper and do nothing
-click on the empty tcp area
-run the action "Select all items/tracks/envelope points (depending on focus)" from the actions list or via a shortcut
-...nothing happens

Remember, there is this 'last touched track' thing, so if you had a track selected, then you unselected all, then if you click in the empty tcp area, all tracks gets selected.

Also: Click into the arrange view area, select all items (which overrides this 'last touched track' thingy), then click into the empty tcp area and again no tracks get selected.

Dunno WHAT happened but i had shut down Reaper, then, half hour later, started Reaper, loaded same Project, tried to regenerate my issue as described in first post and now it just works.
Issue gone.

Magic .. :0)

Do you save the undo history with you projects ?

...and can you try it with an empty/fresh project ?

- left click in empty space TCP.
- action: select all tracks etc depending on focus.
Works now: all tracks get selected.

Again, i changed nothing, it just worked suddenly after closing and opening Reaper.

I can reproduce your question.
1. start new project
2. add some tracks
3. left click so no track is selected
4. hit CTRL A and NO tracks appear to be selected
5. select one track
5. hit CTRL A and all tracks are selected
6. left click so no track is selected
7. hit CTRL A and now all tracks do are selected
Probably a minor bug, but sure no problem for me.
