Default How to use Sundog Scale Studio in Reaper?

Could you pls help me?

I read a review about Sundog Scale Studio and want to buy it to use in Reaper. But the installation instruction seems complex (for other DAWs) while there is no guide on Reaper.

It is here:

http://www.feelyoursound.com/faq-sundog/

Could you pls help explain how I can use it within Reaper. The company says something about a "virtual MIDI cable" to connect Sundog to your DAW.

Thank you so much.

The good news is that it is not as complicated as it sounds.

First, you need to install a virtual MIDI cable. Google it, and choose which one you like the best. There are several very good free ones.

Then install it - it is quick and easy.

From there you can follow the Sundog instructions.

Let us know if you need more help.

(It is best if you try to figure most of this process out for yourself, so you will have a better understanding of how it works).

I had some difficulty using this in Reaper. So I contacted the developer who makes this programme. He told me that he also got in touch with Reaper developers for further info, but did not receive any reply. Hopefully Reaper developers would be more responsive when working with third-party makers.

After testing the demo, I can confirm that Sundog is working perfectly with Reaper 5.01 x64 on win8. Here's how you can get it to work.

First, download LoopBe1 MIDI driver and install it:

http://nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html

When that's done open up Sundog and click on the 'settings' menu at the top, then 'preferences' and set 'MIDI out device' to LoopBe Internal MIDI and click on 'ok'. Now set up one of the instrument channels to play something whilst taking note of which MIDI channel it's set to (this is easily changed if necessary). You might also find it useful to set the 'instrument' parameter to off, as this can mess with the VSTi that you'll be using to play your musical part. That's about it for the Sundog side of things now on to Reaper.

Assuming you've done all the above, and you have Sundog open and ready to go, open up Reaper and go into the preferences menu and under MIDI devices> MIDI Inputs, right click on LoopBe Internal MIDI and set it to 'enable input'. Now back in the arrangement view, insert a new VST instrument, say a piano or something, and set the record arm on the track to on. Now click on the 'Input' drop down menu on the track, then 'Input: MIDI', followed by 'LoopBe Internal MIDI' and set it to the same MIDI channel as the instrument in Sundog. To test if everything is working, go back into Sundog and hit the play button, and you should hear your piano play the part from Sundog.

Hopefully that makes sense and will get you up and running, but if not, give me a shout if you get stuck.

Hi PTF, I have bought Sundog and am using the official version.

However, I cannot drage the Midi from Sundog into Reaper.

I would use my mouse to drag the file into the Daw, but nothing happened.

Could you pls check?

Thank you

Yes, the drag function didn't work for me either. A way around it might be to export the MIDI files out of Sundog, which could then be loaded into Reaper.

Yeah - that kinda ruins the work flow.
Midi drag works perfect in Tracktion and Sonar.

Hopefully the REAPER devs can work with the Sundog developer. I've been really enjoying playing with Sundog.
