Default Firefox 3 - now!

getfirefox.com

for everybody who enjoys firefox 1 or 2: version 3 is fresh out of the oven and delicious! loads of cool stuff like the new "awesome bar" and one-click bookmarking without menu cluttering.

possibly humanized, the guys who made enso, which i can only recommend btw, had something to do with those new features.

for everybody who does not yet use firefox: so that's YOU! i've always been wondering: 'who the hell are those people?'. now go get FF3!

Tried it, it killed my absolutely-must-have TabMixPlus add on. I wouldn't even use Firefox without it, I'd go back to Avant, and I had an horrible time trying to find and download FF 2.0.0.14 to go back to it.

So, just beware that your beloved add on might not work.

Ya, me too. Still waiting on a couple of add-ons to be updated, but no big worries. Anything that's in active development should be coming along shortly.

ah, some (lame) add-ons might not work, right.

Firefox 3 betas have been around for some time though, so all my addons already worked and one was updated automatically to a FF3 version.

and if you look closely on the page of tabmix plus, you can see, that there is in fact a version for FF3.

i was pretty disappointed when i found that out too. i'm sure TMP will get updated eventually.

but i only used it to resize and visually customize tabs, which i have since learned can all be done through userchrome and about:config.

I was running it since april on my office workstation, as it got in with the Kubuntu update to 8.04 but I'm still running Firefox 2.x on my business laptop because of several plugin issues. Installed v3 on my DAW last week though, while hooking it back onto the net

TabMixPlus has a beta on the developer's site that works really well. This one was the main reason I didn't go with the beta or RCs. A week in and most of my extensions now work.

SWEET! Thanks for that, Till! I've been using FF3 for (nearly) a week now, and have been loving it, but I DID miss TabMix. Now that I've got TabMix working, I'm happy as a clam.

Love FF3. Awesome

BUT, watch out for the surf history in you address bar. You ask it to clear in the clear private data option, but it's still there when you type in a URL in the address bar. This disables the feature until they fix the bug.

Disable the Location Bar Dropdown:

1. Type about:config in the Firefox address bar. Hit Enter.
2. Go to "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" in the list.
3. Right click, select "Modify", change to desired setting number.
4. Change setting to 0 to disable, default is 12.

You don't want your wife questioning what redtube.com is do you?

Google maybe??? Now that you have asked, I think I might find out.

It amazes me how much online privacy is an illusion. I found the same thing - sites I had searched for ages ago were now in my address bar. Where was this being stored? By whom? Aluminum hat time me thinks!

If you use Sandboxie for suspect sites, then it's ALL deleted at the session end (if you want)...like a condom for your browser!

Btw CCleaner should get rid of any junk too.

I at least seem to get rid of this data as I can't reproduce this info staying in the address bar.

I do this for FF2:
1) Display history
2) Right-click on the folder for the site, Delete
3) Tools, Cookies, Delete the folder for the site

Gone (if I'm not missing something)

In FF3 you can also delete the cookies, by clicking on the icon at the start of the address bar, then "More information", show cookies...

Good find... that was one of the extensions I missed.

For anyone that likes *dark* themes, I installed "NASA Night Launch" from that guys post in the forum link in Till's post. It be way dark, pretty cool.

FF3 is using up 191 MB here with all plugins disabled.

Have no clue why.

That's what I thought should happen, but it doesn't on my PC and many people I know. It could be a 'feature' if you have Google toolbar installed - I am about to test this.

I'm not sure why either, FF3 is only using 135 MB on my PC with nothing disabled.

Do you have alot of tabs open?

Just for kicks I opened IE7 and it used 210 MB with nothing added.

That's strange, I use CCleaner all the time, no problem deleting 'history' here. Are you using the most recent version? (ver 2.08.588) If not, try updating.

O.O i actually felt like a dickhead for posting that question because it's really obvious , but i also had that "whoooa, hold on, application knows too much!"-moment.

that's 2 issues solved.

btw, firefox doesn't gobble up 150 MB of RAM on startup. on my machine it starts up @ 26 MB usage (which is still a lot). it's pretty sloppy when it comes to freeing RAM tho. on the other hand i never even get 1 (of 2) Gig used up overall when not mixing, so why care?

I regularly have FF eating 300-500MB (right now 362MB) and it does not let it go very well.

I hope FF3 addressed this issue.

Yes, FF3 rocks, if you can live with it chewing up a little memory. Hasn't been a problem here...it's actually only using about 88MB at the moment.

Just to mention it, even without TabMix, I get the Undo Close Tab option by right-clicking to the side of the last tab I have open, and the History menu has a list of recently closed tabs you can pick from. You can duplicate tabs by control-click-dragging a tab.

The must-have add-ons for me are Foxmarks (for the three computers I regularly use) and Mouse Gestures. Once you start browsing with mouse gestures, you can never go back...

I still havent found the "super special toolbar" thing, but...
The icons and UI have been tightened up a bit I guess.
The biggest thing for me is that the process of downloading something is ALOT faster now...
That was a real drag in the 2.X versions... waiting forever for that damn downloads window to get its shit together. Now it just pops right up and starts the darn download like its supposed to. Awesome. Wonder if "Down them all" is faster now too somehow?

Anyway, thanks for the alert Till... I didnt know it was out.
Why didnt Firefox 2.X know that there was a new version?
It always checked for new versions before...

Thanks for that. I remember seeing this a while ago but it wasn't compatible with FF3.

new versions come via autoupdate a little later than the official release, to give the addon developers a chance to catch up and to complete some 'real life beta test' for the new version.
I read something like that on the Mozilla website.
