Track Separators in MCP and TCP
I've noticed a couple of Themes that have this feature.
But something irks me about it - they're all really just an "unused track" that's shrunk down to a black rectangle essentially.
That in and of itself doesn't bother me, but the fact that the tracks don't re-number does.
In other words, if I have 16 tracks with a separator I'd like to see tracks 1-8 then 9-16.
But instead, it looks like in all that I've seen, the seperator is Track 9, and the next normal view track is 10.
I realize you could name the Track "Track 9" or whatever you want, but it can get annoying or confusing glancing at numbers that don't agree.
Is there a way around this? Is it theme-based, or just part or Reaper.

I totally agree with you, it would be good to be able to insert a separator without that does affect the track in court and the number,
Even with folder, it would be interesting to be able to add a track folder without changing the number of track ! some daw as studio one have this option

What I don't like about separators is that you can't control its height in the TCP.
However you can control its width in the MCP. My MCP separators are tiny ... in the TCP they have the same height as the rest of the tracks, too big.

I can control them in the TCP and MCP... in that I have two diff separators as layouts
but in the TCP, using either of them I can drag them taller or less tall just like any other track

Can you control the minimum height of a single separator in the TCP? I mean, can you make it smaller than the other tcp tracks?

yes and no and yes... if
have a look here
as mentioned I have two diff sizes of separators
one normal and one narrow...
I guess I could have one even more narrow but these work OK for me
https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1942/separators.png follow the link and clk download.... the stash won't let me manage it with a screenshot...
in that image the 'tracks' with the red line around them are the separators...
Now I can't make them smaller than what I can do with a normal track... UNLESS they are used in a folder, ...then they get as small as anything else in the folder in the most minimized folder view.
I hope this is helpful?

well the darn stash gets strange sometimes... I can't get to the file to manage it either
but I put this one up so you can at least see it
the areas with red outlines are the separators... you can see some sizes

Here's a crazy question...
Can a track image (layout) be designed that has a blank panel appended to the right or left side? Then, when you need a separator, you can right-click on a track, go to Track Layout, go to Mixer Panel and select a layout that has the blank panel (separator) appended to it. Then repeat for the Track Panel as well.
Asbestos underwear in place - fire when ready. :-)

It is possible to create a track panel (layout) where you have a blank separator space on either or even both sides of the regular track control area. And that would indeed preserve the correct track numbering if separators are not to be counted. Will of course increase the number of layouts at least to double of what is being needed/used currently.

Yeah, I see that now...
Well there goes my entry into the fascinating world of UI design.
I may have to learn a little something of how to modify the track layouts and make my own. Or, I can continue to not give a damn about the track number, use the separators as they are, and let Reaper keep track of what is going where.
OK, I'm good. Carry on.

Well, I suppose it's at the programming level.
What there needs to be is simply a track that has options to make it a "separator" (filled black) and "do not include in track count". It might have to be "independently sizeable" as well.

That is what I did with my Solaris mod.
It makes the layout count very high.
It's unfortunate that there isn't another way at the moment
