Default Ender Bug in 5.4?

I noticed that when I try to render a track (using time selection) that is shorter than other tracks in the project, Reaper ignores the time selection I make and instead puts a large tail out to the end time of the longest track. Note that the other tracks are muted, and I am using Master Mix Mix/Time Selection. This used to work in 5.3 versions.

My usual MO is to take song mixes, render them to .WAV, then use a New Project to insert the .WAVs into a few "playlist" tracks. This has been working just the way I expected up until now, although TBH this is the first time I tried rendering a shorter track.

Is this a design change, a setting I missed or a genuine bug?

tnx! chuck

never seen this prob

but wonder if somehow you have unlinked loop and time selection [look in actions] so that the time you are setting is not real
