Disable midi clock when necessary

Hi there,

I am recording audio from my external gear into Reaper.
I send midi clock from Reaper and the gear is on slave, so it starts and stops with reaper transport buttons. That is the easiest way to record to the grid and tempo of Reaper. It works fine but when I play my recording, the clock is starting my gear again. Is there a way to stop sending clock without going to the preferences and disable/enable it there?

I couldn't find an action for it. I remember, in Cubase, there was a button on the transportbar to send/disable clock.

As a workaround I change from slave to master on the gear, but menudiving is invloved there too...

Hi

I can't find any related action or API function that allows you to stop Midi out clock.
but if your device has a dedicated CC for disabling sync then you can send CC to stop sync.

Never before heard of a device that has a dedicated CC for disabling sync.
I am using an RM1x and I can't find anything about a CC for sync.

They should make an action or a frontbutton for that.

Sorry, I mean sending via midi sysex.

I tested SysEx on my EMX to stop sync and it's working.
Just enable FX(ReaControl) to stop sync and Bypass to sync again.
or use this action: SWS/S&M: Toggle FX 1 bypass for selected tracks

Sorry for the late reply. I don't know much about sysex messages yet.
I will give that tutoriallink a go, thanx for that. Anyway when I look at your video, it seems pretty straight forward with Reacontrolmidi but even there I have no clue yet which sysex message I have to enter.

Anyway trying to get into this I realized how complicated I make things: My problem was after recording. While listening to the recording and editing it, I noticed the hardware was still triggered and playing too (the audio was the disturbing factor). I didn't want to disable the clock in the preferences because I wanted to record a lot of patterns after the first one.

Disabling the monitorbutton of the track was enough...pretty stupid, I know...and the midiclock can keep on running that way for the next recording.
When I wrote my question, I just got a new soundcard (RME Fireface UC) and it has it's own mixersoftware which was probably not yet configured correctly and played my hardware inputs through the speakers even with the monitorbutton disabled, if that makes sense...I had to mute the inputs in that RME software to make it work and in the end there was a special DAW operation mode that fixed everything.

No, you are not stupid at all. Because if you were, I would be too... I fought that problem too for a few hours... and I dont consider myself to be stupid. :-)

There are actions for arming your track and enabling/disabling the monitorbutton:

*Toggle record aiming for current track
*Set track record monitor to off/on

According to your first post I thought you want to do something special with disabling sync.

But for that, Monitoring button will do the job.
