Samples sound different

When I preview samples or loops in the media preview window, they sound much different/better than when I drag them into a project. I've tried to adjust the media item settings but that doesn't seem to help.

Do the items change by default and where do I change that OR am I just hearing things?

Are you sure you don't have auto tempo checked in the media explorer? This will have a drastic change in sound as you claim..

Other than that they are exactly the same
