Isntall Reaper on Windows Nano Server 2016?
Would it be possible? Wouldn't this give ultimate performance?
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...s-server-2016/
Maybe it needs a simple Window Manager?
Alternatively, run a small Server-client setup. Run Reaper on the 'server' with Windows server 2016, and a client (laptop) which controls it, has a GUI etc. either Linux or Windows.

It's completely headless and even then I don't see any value, even if reaper could run on it. Then the next problem is drivers.

So is it impossible to install our audio interface drivers on it?

I'm expecting trouble. It's a very watered down version of the server product which means there is a lot of high level stuff missing, especially where headed applications are concerned. I haven't set one up since the "server core" days but I'm not sure how you'd even run the install since AFAIK it's command line only and may complain.

I have 2 ideas,
1 - Install a Windows Shell, like LiteStep, http://www.lsdev.org/doku.php so you have a GUI.
2 - Control it remotely. The client machine would have a GUI, send program information to the server, which will then do it's magic, and output sound. Then the server machine would have no GUI at all, and I guess give ultra-performance. You would need the client to run windows and have Reaper installed, so the server would be a kind of reaper slave. Maybe it would even be controlled with Reamote.

I would never discourage someone from trying, I learned more stuff by trying and failing than the inverse of that but seems like from an audio/DAW perspective it would be ridden with problems.
The GUI link, if it uses any underlying Windows graphic components, may not work because all that is likely completely missing. If it were me, before I did any audio stuff, I'd install it into a VM and see what happens.

Ok, I'm thinking instead maybe it's better to install Windows Enterprise LTSB.
