Default Macro for Moving Sliced Samples to the Start of Individual Tracks

Ok here's one that places them in order (left to right = top to bottom), and puts each slice at the start of their new tracks. You need to insert a track and drag it above the slice track, as per the previous example.

So here's the macro:

And here's how it ends up:

Default Macro to move Sliced Samples to Individual Tracks, Keeping Time Position

This new Macro keeps the samples in order, ie Left to Right = Top to Bottom... you need to insert a track first, and drag the new track above the slice track. It should look like this before you start pressing the macro:

This is how it turns out:

if you use Allow Feedback Routing and you are looking for a way to Freeze midi to Audio and have them locked together as takes, then this will help.

make sure your routing is correct.
select the midi items that you want as audio.
select the tracks that they are on.
place the playback marker before the first item
disable repeat on transport (or be very quick on the stop!

press:

Default Render Stems and Remove Original Tracks

I did this for a user so I might as well add it to the thread :

Default Go to Start or End of Loop Selection

I see this come up a lot, so here's my solution for the missing actions:

Move Cursor to Start of Loop Selection - Ctrl + ,

Move Cursor to End of Loop Selection - Ctrl + .

Don't forget to check this preference first:

Default Snap Offset

For the PT users who use the Control+Comma(,) to Identify Sync Point. The equivalent in REAPER is the Snap Offset. This command will do the exact same except toggle it off:

To toggle the Sync Point/Snap Offset off, select the Item(Region) and use the following:

Default Mouse Over Snap Offset/Indentify Sync Point

Here is the "Mouse Over" version of the Snap Offset/Identify Sync Point command. Just hover the mouse over any Item(Region), apply the command and move on. Another command that puts the "R" in REAPER.

To toggle this one off, just hover the mouse over the Item(Region) and do the following:

Here is an example of using the Mouse Over Snap Offset/Identify Sync Point in use:

Sorry for the n00b question, but this is my first day with Reaper.

I downloaded the file with the icons and macro, and I'm wondering what I have to do to install it? Is there a certain folder in the Reaper dir etc?

I really think the macro toolbar is a great idea! The usefulness vs. the space it takes up is a good trade-off. It could also help some users to migrate from other systems. I'm coming from Cubendo, and by the looks of things, using macros it might be possible to emulate much of the functionality of the Steinberg toolbar...

I'm loving the reaBend skin btw!

----
*EDIT*

Ok I think I have it figured out, I have the Macro toolbar opening fine with Reaper, the only problem is that the icons don't show up, just blank boxes.

The icons are in the scripts folder and I also copied them into a subfolder with the name of the macro to see if that would work, but no luck yet. Any ideas?

I must say though, I'm quite impressed. The macro toolbar helps get rid of some of that naked feeling I have coming from Cubase. Personally I think a nice space for this macro toolbar would be build into Reaper in the blank real estate between the transport controls and the tempo information, probably easier said than done. A drop down box to select the default quantize value would also feel right at home there too.

Default MACRO: instant punch in point with preroll

Want to punch in quickly, with a little preroll?
Put the play cursor at the punch in point and run this macro.

Before

After

And... The Macro

Notes / babble:
EDIT: Forum member, Simplecarnival suggested that Transport: Record be added to the last step in the macro... Brilliant

Of course, you need to have OPTIONS:"Record mode:Time selection auto punch" checked for this to work

Also, I dont think there is a way to specify what "a little bit" is in the "rewind a little bit" part of the macro...
If you want it to rewind more, try just adding another instance of that command in the next slot.

And...For the play cursor to jive with this macro you must make sure this the
"move edit cursor to start or time selection on time selection change"
is checked under PREFERENCES>EDITING....

May I also suggest that you UNCHECK OPTIONS> "loop points linked to time selection" ...
I dont like what happens when you only get part way through a punch in section
when recording in a loop selection... Its just weird!

P.S. Respect to Billoon, for pointing out the new
loop / time selection actions to me awhile back.

Thanks also to simplecarnival for trying to control his DAW
from another other room with a gamepad, inspiring this macro... LOL!

Great work everyone!

However, the Freeze/Unfreeze macro does not work if you have multiple takes on the track in question. More precisely, when you un-freeze the track the last/bottom take will be set as active even if you had another take active when you frooze it.

I've been trying to figure out a way around this but haven't come up with anythin yet. Anyone got a solution?

Here's the one I use now (I found that same problem recently while freezing Nebula3 takes, I just hadn't posted it yet )

item: select all items in selected tracks
take: delete current take from items
track: toggle fx bypass for selected tracks
track: set all fx online for selected tracks
take: switch items to next take

Sometimes I offline fx when freezing, sometimes I don't, this one unfreezes either way...it selects the original take 1 this way also.

* Also, the freeze isn't accurate if you move the volume line on an item, so it's best to use the fader in item properties...otherwise you double dose. It'd be awesome if there was an option to ignore this volume line when applying fx as new take. (I think it's pre-fx volume iirc).

Default Apply FX as New Take (With Tails) Macros

Ok, I worked out an easy way to apply fx to a take and include the tail. You select the track and take, time select the area of the item AND tail, then hit these 2 macros. This assumes you have auto-crossfades on and loop source as default. You can replace step 2 - action 1 with the mono version as well, if you wish.

Hope it helps!

Oh btw, a really awesome feature with this is, when you render the fx to a new take, you don't need to bypass the fx after, because they remain only on the original take...how cool is that?!!

Nice one for the macros Bevosss, It was doing my nut in trying to achieve what the macros do in a painless way...I've since tailored yours to suit my own needs.....someone may find it useful, this is for applying fx with the tail, it uses the same track as the item you are effecting, and deletes the old take.... it assumes that loop source and auto x fade are already de-selected:

1. Move cursor to end of time selection
2. Item: Set selected item end to cursor
3. Apply FX to items
4. Move cursor to start of time selection
5. Take: Set first take active
6. Take: Delete active take

Default macro help

hello everybody,
i'm rather new to reaper but liking it very much already!
The macro possibilities look very interesting to improve workflow.
i'm looking for help to create a macro(s) that does the following:
i have a drumtrack and recorded a guitarriff over it that i played for example 20 times. I choose the best loop by setting the timeselection.

ideal macro (in normal terms :
* cut out the selected loop en delete all the rest
* create a tiny fade in and fade out to avoid clicks
* put the loop where i originally began to record and paste it 10 times then select all items so i can move easely.

macro that i got so far :
* item: trim items to selected area
* item: render items to new take
* move cursor to end of time selection
* copy item
* paste item

problems:
* i really want to delete the source from the harddrive and just keep the selected loop.
* there are no fades
* start of copies should be at beginning of song
* item is only copied one time (could use ctrl-d macro to duplicate as many times as i want)

probably there is a much better way to achieve what i want
using autocrossfade and a bunch of other stuff that i don't know about yet

any ideas to help a noob?

Man, this macro stuff is way cool. I'm still new, just getting past the stock shortcuts and learning about this, pretty exciting stuff.

To make this post actually relevant somehow, I did put a slight wrinkle in one of the zoom macros Bevoss posted earlier in this thread. For ALT+Z I added the edit cursor jumping to the mouse cursor on zoom. So now with ALT+Z it'll zoom in on an item but also move the cursor, so I can just hover the mouse over the general area I know I'll be editing and it'll zoom right in to it instead of leaving the cursor somewhere else where I might need to move it post zoom. Very intuitive for me, but I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of it.

Also, I downloaded Cross Hair and that is one way cool little tool to have, thanks so much for posting it!

Default Macros + Logitech G11

Is EVIL

Just bought that keyboard which allow you to programm "macros".
You can record a list of events typed on the keyboard and allocate it to a single key (g1 to g18, three groups), you can even record the delay in between the events)

Combine the macros thing of the g11 + the macros thing of reaper.....oh yes you see now where it leads.

No more limited by the six operations mode of the reaper macro.

There is a problem with this approach, unfortunately. Because you have to extend the last region, what if there is stuff in that extension that you don't want? The region is trimmed specifically, in other words, perhaps with a fade too. When extending the last region would mess up the contents of the track (because the region was edited to NOT include contents beyond the edit), you can use my macro to freeze with trails:

It's also two part, and does require a step in between... (I wish there was one more action slot for macros!!!!)

Step 1:
Actions:
1. Items: Select all items in selected tracks
2. Time Selection: Set time selection to selected items
3. Move cursor to end of time selection
4. Time Select: Remove time selection
5. Insert empty item
6. Item: Select all items in selected tracks

Step 2:
HAVE TO DO THIS MANUALLY (or set up your own shortcut):
Edit->Glue selected items

Step 3:
Use threads original freeze macro (first post).

---

By adding an empty item at the very end of the last region, you only extend the region with silence, instead of the contents of your region. Also, it is important to glue selected items because Applying track FX on a per item basis can result in blank or erroneous regions if those regions are too small, due to any predelay or reverb FX. Applying "per item" does it just like it sounds; it does not treat the track as a whole so when moving on to the next item, it does not consider whats going on with the item before it.

This freeze method should be fail-safe with the exception of whenever the trail would be longer than the empty item we insert permits, but that is probably going to be pretty rare... it's looking like the empty item is fairly long.

Also, there could be room to adjust the middle step with it's own macro. It would be nice to have something that backs up the original regions, because gluing is destructive. I'll add something later on to accomplish this.

Default How To Navigate Via Cue Markers (Item Media Cues)

I requested this a while ago, then worked out I could already do it.

Select an item with embedded media cues, and hit this macro to advance:

And to go backwards:

If you have other regions or markers in the project, it will stop on them along the way as well, but won't affect them.

If you don't have an item with cues selected and use it, you will undo the last action...user beware! (really, just hit redo if this happens).

Hope this helps...

Default Macro to Freeze Selected Track(s) with Tail and Unfreeze

This is work from myself, Bevoss, and BrunetteModels...

Here I improved on their work to create a very workable Freeze Method. This method freezes the entire track, so if you're just doing one item I suggest rendering that separately.

Freeze Selected Tracks

1. Item: Select all Item in selected tracks
2. Item Properties: Loop Source
3. Item: Render Items to new take
4. Set Selected Items Length to Source Media Length
5. Track: Toggle FX Bypass for selected tracks
6. Loop Points: Remove Loop Point Selection

Unfreeze Selected Tracks

1. Item: Select All Items in Selected Tracks
2. Take: Delete Current Take From Items
3. Track: Toggle FX Bypass for selected Tracks

Switching Between Frozen and Unfrozen Files (no deletion)

1. Item: Select All Items in Selected Tracks
2. Take: Switch Items To Next Take
3. Track: Toggle FX Bypass for selected Tracks

Default Fill Gap Macro

Hi,

here is my first not trivial macro, it fills a gap between the selected item and the next item (or more precisely, set the item end of the selected item to the item start of the next item)

+ Item Navigation: Select and move to next item
+ Markers: Add/move marker 10 to play/edit cursor
+ Item Navigation: Select and move to previous item
+ Markers: Go to marker 10
+ Item: Set selected item end to cursor

Not so nice is, that it needs creates a new marker, that i can't delete automatical, because maybe on the same position, their was already a marker before. Has someone another idea, how to set the time position to the start of the next item, without selecting the item itself (and without the workaround to create a marker)?

If you have installed the Marker utilities extension from SWS (thanks SWS), than you can restore the old marker set, the complete macro is:

+ Item Navigation: Select and move to next item
+ SWS: Copy marker set to clipboard
+ Markers: Add/move marker 10 to play/edit cursor
+ Item Navigation: Select and move to previous item
+ Markers: Go to marker 10
+ Item: Set selected item end to cursor
+ SWS: Paste marker set from clipboard
+ Item Navigation: Move cursor left to edge of selected item

I have also another question. I want to have an alternative "fill gap macro", that should timestretch the selected macro to fill the gap, instead only change the end position. Did i overlook something, or this is really not possible at the moment (without additional extensions).

Best,
Klinke

This one works (without a marker), as long as you don't have 'move edit cursor to start of time selection on time selection change' enabled'.

The item must be selected first, then hit the macro, then escape (to remove the time selection.

I do have it enabled, so it sux to be me...

I tried to PM you, but you're mailbox is full. Have you came up with a better Freeze method, maybe using some of Xen's Extensions?

Default Move cursor left/right FAST

Do you also think that moving the cursor with the keyboard is way too slow? Here is the solution:

1. Simply create two new macros e.g. "Move cursor left FAST" and "Move cursor right FAST".

2. Add as many "View: Move cursor right" / "View: Move cursor left" actions to the new macro which suits your preferred speed (I have 5).

Wonderful stuff! Here are some simple navigational actions I use. Simple but useful, atlease fo me

The default "Ctrl Right/Left" is transport Fast Forward/Rewind. It was useless for me. So I updated it to move by one measure (or bar if you prefer).

Ever wanted to create time selections that snap to grid? Here they are.

I've left out keyboard shortcuts you might use for these actions. Tht's entirely up to you.

Import this keymap and try it, it selects items under the edit cursor on selected tracks. If you want it to apply to all tracks, hit Ctrl-A first to select the all, or modify the macro with the 'all tracks in time selection' action.

Default Freeze Macro Set

*** UPDATE

use the download above, it's working in Reaper beta3 (May 12 2009)

** also, the freeze.dll has been replaced by sws.exe (which combined all his separate plugins and self-installs)

NB: You need REAPER 2.52 or later version installed, for Item Freeze to work.
Check 'Do not process muted tracks' in Reaper\Preferences\Audio.
************************************************** ************************************************** *********

This is a macro keymap for using freeze in Reaper. It includes a fast and simple freeze for track items, and a full freeze for all track types (Normal/Folder/Child/Buss).

Both types of freeze are fully restorable, and you can also toggle the state off/on while frozen...unfreezing also deletes the source file to the recycle bin. Neither unfreeze action should delete your original files.

************************************************** ************************************************** *********

Download the FreezePak, and follow the instructions.

Install SWS.exe and put Reaper_Xenakios_Commands.dll in Reaper\Plugins, THEN start Reaper.

Place Freeze.ReaperKeymap in Reaper\Keymaps

Press shift-/ (?), click on import, doubleclick Freeze.ReaperKeymap

(then press asterix (*) to see only the Freeze shortcuts...they fit with REAPER's default mapping)

(the same keymap without assigned shortcuts is supplied also for experienced mappers - Freeze_(no_shortcuts).ReaperKeyMap)

Select the track(s) to freeze, and then:

1. Choose either a fast Item Freeze (uses 'apply fx' for simple tracks with items), or

2. Choose a slower, comprehensive Track Freeze (works on ALL track types, normal/folder/child/buss, except those with pre/post fx sends)

Track Freeze:

Press Alt-Shift-F to Track Freeze a stereo track.

Press Alt-Shift-M to Track Freeze a mono track.

Press D to set Track Freeze off (for comparison)

Press F to set Track Freeze on again.

Press Alt-Shift-Delete to Unfreeze the selected track, which deletes the frozen rendered take(s) to the recycle bin.

Item Freeze:

Press Ctrl-Shift-F to Item Freeze a stereo track.

Press Ctrl-Shift-M to Item Freeze a mono track.

Press W to set Item Freeze off (for comparison)

Press E to set Item Freeze on again.

Press Ctrl-Shift-Delete to Unfreeze the selected track items, which deletes the frozen rendered take(s) to the recycle bin.

************************************************** ************************************************** **************************

** (special thanks to SWS, Xenakios and Mercado_Negro for their vision, input and plugin coding)

Default Create a Folder Above, Containing the Selected Tracks

Quote:
This macro creates a folder above the first selected track...just select the tracks you want to put in the folder, hit Ctrl-Alt-F, and it places them in a folder above, in native auto-rename mode.

The zip file attached contains the plugins and macro required. Close Reaper, place the plugins into Reaper\Plugins, open Reaper and import the above named keymap (mapped to Ctrl-Alt-F).
The zip file contains the minimum plugins required (Xenakios_Commands and Freeze).

Oh yeah...thanks again to sws and xenakios, the coolest coders north of Cockos!

macro to effectively `solo` many takes recorded in free item positioning mode.

not sure if this is general knowledge, but I like the freedom FIPM gives to a many takes situation, especially if recorded looped with autopunch.
the problem is normally that you cannot solo a `take` like in take mode, only mute the items you dont want to hear, so with many items this is a pain:
so:
----------------------------
select all items in selected track (or time selection of track upto you)
mute all selected items
select item under mouse
unmute selected item.
--------------------------

i can now point at the take/pass i want to hear and use macro to solo it much like in takes mode, but can then easily unmute other takes to play together, split move adjust volume etc. all in place. good for doubling or harmonies, but you can lose the dodgy harmony take or the first few where you were warming up.

hope thats of some help, i like it anyway!
