Default Listening in real time to recording

Hi All!

I'm brand new to Reaper, though I've been playing guitar for many years. I've purchased a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd gen) and it seems to work great!

I am able to get the guitar connected through it (via my laptop), arm the track and record. However, I can only use that I/O (the Scarlett Solo) to record the guitar. Once it's recorded, I can hear it with the VST plugins I've configured with it. So basically, I can only hear the actual guitar sound AFTER I record it and play it back.

I tried just using the actual onboard soundcard for monitoring, but there is a bad lag that I can't resolve. I have my headphones hooked in to the monitor input on the Scarlett Solo, and that's how I can hear the playback.

So...does anyone know if I am missing something obvious that would let me hear the guitar track with the VST effects applied in real time?

Thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to the Reaper Forums!

Make sure that the input monitoring for the track is set correctly. More info here: http://www.reaper.fm/videos.php#iLC1HjLXLd0

For getting started check out the excellent Reaper User Guide in general: http://www.reaper.fm/userguide.php

Wow, it may just be that simple. I'll try it when I plug back in. Thanks for the quick response. Just purchased Reaper too!

I forgot to mention the SWS Extensions which add additional functionality to Reaper: http://www.sws-extension.org/

Have fun

Thanks for the advice and the links! I haven't installed the SWS Extensions but will give them a look. Your advice re: the monitoring was indeed the issue. Thanks so much for the help!
