Default Killer v3 feature?

I haven't had a chance to investigate v3 yet.

I'm not a power user, and v2.5 is plenty powerful for me.

What is the one feature of v3 you recommend I check out? The one feature without which my life is incomplete?

Of course different users will have different needs ... for me it is track parameter controls.

Automation lanes and upgrades, making handling of automation much easier.

Lots of goodies, but the one I took for granted immediately is nested folders. I couldn't do without anymore.

MIDI editor, Automation lanes

those was the previously missing features that now made me move to Reaper as main host (looking for future improvements in those areas, still!)

A big ++1...you won't ever route the same anymore, it's so quick and just GREAT! The nested folder/buss combo really is the standard for daws now, not many contenders here imo...

Features aside I think v3 is much better optimized and the performance seems better compared to v2.

Much better streaming of files on OSX, and I've noticed it on Windows too.

I like the number 3 better than 2. Have never been a fan of even numbers.

That, and the Project Tabs, MIDI enhancements, and it's easier to organize your sessions I think.

Yeah, those two-faced bastards. Who knows what they're doing on the side you can't see.

Project tabs. Inline midi editing. Track parameter controls.
And I can't believe that nobody mentioned the new Media Explorer capabilities yet.

For me it's

1. nested folders - really simplifies visualizing my mixes
2. automation lanes
3. adding knobs for effects to the track panel.

Open it - there's a lot more functionality than in V2. Main improvement is preview afaik.

Tabs baby! Just like Firefox. I have a pal who is using Reaper on Mac to do his vocal tracks 100 miles from me... I send him a stereo stem to record to. He sends me back a Reaper project with his chopped up vocals (and all the wave files so I have the original files for further editing if I want). When I am ready to pop his vocals into my "main" project file, I simply copy the vocals from his project in a tab and paste them into my project in another tab. Brilliant, no need for consolidations all over, non destructive to the underlying files... I love it. I am sure there are 100 other uses for his I haven't even thought of.

Folder in folder is very nice too. I was taking two drum over heads tracks and was sending them to a third track to combine them into a single fader under my drum folder. Now I have my drum folder and an overhead folder under that. Saves a bit of routing time for me.

Version 3's Default theme is beautiful. Definite eye candy, without taxing your system.

Cool, I use the hell out of Firefox tabs. I'll have to check this out.
thanks!

in V3 you have a graphic presentation of the wave file and you can access any point in time. Like a mini-media player. Really useful to sort out between files.

hideable tracks + sws extension (still a little clunky but invaluable for hiding unused routing-only tracks)

beautiful default theme (so pretty.)

greatly improved midi workflow (i sequence on MPC and only use reaper's midi editor for touchups, so a little goes a long way)

track icons (these visual queues are invaluable)

im a pretty basic user, but nested folders kill
and automation lanes (hidable) is awesome for cleaning up the interface.
And it just looks so tasty
