Default How to monitor input during playback whilst muting previous takes?

I have a track with recorded audio already on it and I want to mute this recorded take while practicing a new take along with the rest of the project tracks. However, I cannot mute the input track without also muting the input signal. The only way this currently works is if I record a subsequent take over the first one but I only want to rehearse my part first. Can anyone explain how to do this? :/

i setup a keyboard shortcut (alt-1) in my case that uses an action. I think it's "mute items" or "mute media items".

Mute the item itself, not the track. Right click the item, =>Item Settings->Mute.
Easier still would be to display the mute button on the item.
Prefs/Appearance/Media/.. check the "Media item buttons" that you want to display. I personally have them all checked.

I also have this problem and think that muting items is still a workaround.

A quite obvious behavior would be:

- Muting clips mutes the items on the track
- Monitoring is independent from muting and record arming

What's the downside of this behavior?

As another workaround I sometimes use a subtrack and put all items on this track. The subtrack can be muted when playing on the main track. There's also a strange behavior with this subtracks. Muting while the track is playing will not mute the track immediately and for MIDI tracks I sometimes face hanging notes. Unmuting works as expected.

Thanks!
