Default scripting 'drag region' behavior as action?

so here's my quandary: i'm working on a recordable live performance template, with regions for each song. i want to be able to leave gaps between regions, using a footpedal to move them (and their contents) to the measure following the play cursor on the fly so that the downtime between songs can also be captured(for posting entire set to youtube, etc) without gaps in the recording. i've attempted to create macros with existing actions, but nothing i've found can mimic the mouse drag behavior.
my first attempt was to highlight the time selection of the region, move the edit cursor to the play cursor, and move the items to the next measure, but of course that didn't shift the complete region with tempo contents &etc. no good.
attempt 2:
  • stop recording at next measure
  • stop playback
  • go to region (i) after current one (none) is finished
  • record
closest available thing to my goal, but naturally introduces a ~50ms gap at 48k.

is there hope via reascripting? as actions, the ideal functionality would be phrased something like "drag region (i) to next measure."
