Default Analysing a MIDI file

I usually deal with MIDI files of different, unkown sources. Most of them freedownloaded from the net, some of them bought in Spain for 3 €. I suppose, then, that their quality is not granted to be high, although in some cases they look very musical (mainly big american hits -oldies-).

Well, the think is that I import them into Sibelius, make some changes and reexport to MIDI again. Then I import into REAPER to convert them to audio (using VSTi or Kontakt 4). From time to time I encounter unexpected behaviour I feel the need to explore them internally (the MIDI file I mean)

Can anyone please advise on a tool to look at them, their events,... I use Anvil Studio 2012, but maybe you have better opinions.

thanks
