Got a new mouse - need to optimize Reaper for it
I just got a new mouse (Logitech MX Master) that has side scroller, thumb button.
I'm trying to optimize Reaper settings to do the following:
1). Make thumb click as the hand scroll in Arrange view (instead of Shift+Alt+Ctrl right drag).
2). Use middle click to scrub the selected item (instead of Ctrl+Alt+middle click). I can use this to audition the take (unless there's a better way?).
3). Use side scroll to scroll horizontally even if in the Arrange view (instead of just in the TCP).
How do I go about doing those? I've played with the mouse modifiers but I must be missing something.

You'll need to set those commands in Logitech's software. That is, make the thumb button send Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Mousewheel, etc.
Reaper doesn't know about those extra buttons on your mouse (apart from left, right and middle click).

Yes I did that, but I don't find the options in Reaper.

There's a great free program called AutoHotkey ( http://www.autohotkey.com) that you can use to make your mouse or keyboard do whatever you want it to. For what you need, it'll be pretty easy to set up - just read the tutorial on their website.

What do you mean? What kind of options? It's all in mouse modifiers - you just have to use a combination of modifiers along with a certain mouse button type, instead of, I dunno, L10 button on the mouse or whatever.

Exactly.
I've found the logitech Setpoint software not the most versatile but normally good enough for most things (before resorting to autohotkey or something similar).
I couldn't map everything I needed to middle click (scrollwheel click) for hand scroll so mapped shift+ctrl+alt+, now I can press that and right click together to scroll everything.

Hrm that seems an oversight, then, because other programs very often do recognize these buttons. For example, the Quake game engine assigns left click, right click, and middle button click as mouse1, mouse2, and mouse3, and additional buttons are mouse4 5 6 7 8 9 etc and I've never used a mouse that didn't properly have it's buttons assigned.
I'm sure there's would be a way to do it Reaper-side.

Well, it seems to me it would be quite laborious to add support for gazillion mouse buttons in Mouse Modifiers editing in Preferences (not to mention dbl click, drag and click behaviours for each of those)...
A shooter game is a different thing from a DAW.

Ok, let me post some pics to explain what I mean. Reaper doesn't have an option/modifier to get this done as far as I can tell.
Reaper sees the buttons as MediaButtonUp or whatever, so thats not the issue. The problem is I can't find the option/modifier to set middle click/thumb click to do what I want.

Here's the exact problem - showing the mouse modifier for MIDDLE click/drag (I want it to change to scrub tool but it doesn't). It's set to scrub audio but it doesn't do it. Maybe its a bug??

<edit> Ehhmm....First problem solved. Turns out there was a rogue option - SWS Extensions -> SWS Zoom Preferences -> Zoom with middle mouse button (Overrides Reaper prefs). I've unticked it and I'm back in the biz.

Reaper does recognize those side buttons. I have new logitech mouse (model # escapes me at the moment - away from PC) and I've programmed them for various things like copy/paste media items, etc. so far, they've worked for any action listed. Sorry I can't provide more details at the moment - up at the cottage.

Yes, reaper does. My problem was the SWS extension zoom prefs overrode the reaper prefs so for the life of me I couldn't figure out why the reaper settings werent working.

Good to see you close the loop on this. I learned a few things (as always) from the responses which I can apply on my Logitech mice.

Mouse Button Customization
Maybe this is already in the forum elsewhere, a search didn't bring it up.
Would this do what you need:
https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/...toncontrol.htm
I haven't tried it yet, but looks promising. :^)

So did I.
I use a Logitech Performance MX and used the "advanced options program specific" utility (What's the english term for that...arrrgh?) to use the magnify.exe on thumb button.
It didn't work out that well, it often took a while to get active. Turned that "Arrgh" thing of and created then a windows key command (e.g. altgr + m) for starting magnify.exe and assigned it to that button.
Much better, but the mouse cursor had to be hovered over the arrange window.
