Is There A Training Program For Those Who Want To Work For Reaper??
Hi!
Just wanted to know if there is a course or program somewhere for aspiring Reaper users who may want to one day work for a part-time or full-time paid position within the Reaper family: lectures, talks, seminars, private lessons, manual or article writers, forum advisors, consultants, ideas coordinators, promotion, video demonstrators, etc.
Probably not: so many here seem like experts already and only volunteer their time. Yet Geoffrey Francis seems to have found a nitch with Reaper as their official user's manuals man. I'm sure he gets paid for this.
Or would you need to first get a diploma or certificate as an audio engineer independently to be even considered??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Mike

When Geoff started doing the user guide, it was strictly volunteer. Hopefully he gets a little something for his work these days.
There have been several people do video tutorials voluntarily, but Kenny Gioia is making a little cash because he works for Groove3.
I don't know what kind of positions will open up in the future (if any). Its a very small staff and I imagine it will stay that way. If I was wanting employment... I would look elsewhere.

fwiw - think there is a market for Reaper training/consulting/project work, but haven't wrapped my head around a way to make it profitable yet.

One business model to remember: Audience = Money. If you can get a large audience, however you're able to, you can monetize.
The problem that you, me, and everyone else has, is getting that audience in the first place!

Thanks, Everyone
Sounds like the basic answer is NO: no jobs to fit into the Cockos/Reaper family. You would think that any company (music or not) would have to have dozens of people employed to make the company succeed. I know Reaper is very cheap (price-wise) and maybe everyone involved are 100% volunteers. I actually have a hard time believing that because with any business, the bottom line is: make money or you don't survive, and you have to pay people to help you make money (nothing in life is free).

Words of wisdom, my boy, words of wisdom!! Maybe that's true with the founders of Reaper. But I am convinced that they still must pay some people to make their well-oiled machine work so well. Maybe they only hire family, friends, or close contacts. You know the old say: "It's who you know or who you ___."
I will say one positive thing: 98% of the people on this forum are so helpful, so friendly, even doing it for free. That astounds me. People are not normally like that!!
Even one better: I'm amazed by how many professional DAW users there are here! And they don't get compensated for their generous time. They SHOULD!!

Compensation in life can come from many sources Mikef.
Money is the most sterile.
I do everything for free that is not involved with my normal work and even in my work I will give away. As long as I am getting through life okay then I will share.
There are many people out there that do the same.
For me Reaper is like a bus and we are all being taken on a great ride learning as we go by an awesome engine who happens to be a fantastic person who writes great programs and who also involves other great people to help him.
I can never argue with that just enjoy the ride and get out to push the bus when occasion demands.
Bringing monetary payment into anything like this is like bring pollution into space.

Nice words, Grinder.
And as far as we know there are 3 devs & I suspect that the two who are not JF do indeed need to be paid.
I also hope that "Nicholas" is on the payroll, even if it isn`t his main source of income.
I would happily pay a couple of bucks extra on my semi-versional subscription to make sure he gets paid.

Most engineers I know don't even have degrees. My friend went to school for it and his teachers even told him how useless his degree would be. He's a waiter.
But as to your question, you could try to start a group on facebook for this and have Skype meetings perhaps. Since you can share your desktop with others, it might be a good way for people to give each other direct help and share tips in realtime.

no, they shouldnt. if they were paid, then every one who uses their help would have to pay for the help. see whare that goes? in zero-time the forum/community would be dead.

Also, perhaps the OP doesn't realize that Reaper is basically a hobby project for a few developers that went mainstream for various reasons. The success doesn't appear to have changed that much at the core. Sure they sell it and make a living, but it's not primarily a business venture. There's no advertising, no marketing department, I doubt if there's even a secretary. Pretty sure they all work from home. It is what it is.
But unlike any of the other DAWs out there, you actually have a chance to influence its direction via the community. You can adapt it to your workflow. You can add your own features. You won't find this many helpful people on any of the other forums because those companies don't listen their end-users. They listen to trends and focus on profits. The Cockos team gave us tools no other DAW does and commands a loyal following as a result. You can't compare it to other products and you can't hold the "company" up to the same standards as the others. It's something like a "co-op" DAW. You pay a little membership fee and put in some of your free time and reap the benefits of everyone else doing the same.
