MICROPHONE RECORDING- Asio/VISTA
How do I get Reaper to to pickup my microphone input when asio driver is selected? I get the display:not connected.
If I use direct sound or wave out the microphone input works but the latency on midi intruments become crappy.
I am using Vista.
It seems to work fine in XP - I think.

What soundcard???
(Big hint: if you're using a built-in with less than 40cents worth of chips, there's your problem...)

If it's a soundcard with only 2 simultaneously usable inputs, you'll need to select them using your soundcard [or window's] control panel.

It works ok in XP on the same machine but not with vista on the same machine.
By the way is it posible to hear sounds from your regular audio pLAYER WHILE USING your VST instruments- (Hostor stand alone)?

You have to tell us what hardware your on. Laptop, desktop? Sound card?
Regarding your question, no. Asio only works with one app at a time. Meaning, you can't listen to WMP (or any other stuff) while (listening) working with Reaper. Nature of the beast.

Inspiron 1501
Runs Vista and XP
Soundcard: the one that came it it.
Since, I can't listen to WMA and ASio at the same time, how do you suggest I playback my recording in MP3 formats and add a backup (touchup)with additional VST instruments. I want this for live performance playback.
You see, when I am doing live performances, my tracks take so long to load in reaper - about 30 secs to a minuite and sometimes turn out to be unstable.
However, MP3s load quickly and are more reliable but I can't add backup vst instrument with asio (other sound drivers sound crrappy).
What is the best fix to this issue? - I hope you don't say get a new/faster machine.

1. Render your tracks down to an mp3 and stick them in a Reaper project, so you can add a track or two for your live stuff.
2. Get a proper sound card. I actually did alright with my new computer's built-in card, but it's not something I would ever want to use given the choice.

Thanks a lot I like the first answer as that seems to be the best fix for now.
I will render all my tracks to MP3 as MP3(flattened/merged project) tracks load faster in reaper and create a an emtpty track for my backup VST insrument then play along.
BY the another question, I have asked this before- what is the difference between mp3 lame and mp3?
most of my work is renderd to mp3 lame- the playback sound quality is great however, my music sometimes sound offbeat when played in some music players.
What could account for this. What do you suggest to be the best format to render to?
